Students symbol of country’s future: minister

Lahore:30 June:Provincial Minister for Minority Affairs and Human Rights Khalil Tahir Sandhu has said that hard-working and competent male and female students are the symbol of bright future of Pakistan.

He expressed these views during a meeting with a delegation of students of a private University here on Wednesday.

He said the Punjab government had added 47 percent additional budget to the upcoming year for the education sector as compare to the previous budget.

He said collectively Rs 256 billion had been allocated for school education.

10pc pass PMDC NEB Step I Exam

Lahore:30 June:The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) has announced the results of the National Examination Board examinations (NEB) step I (basic sciences subjects) from Pakistani nationals with foreign basic medical and dental qualifications.

According to a press release issued here on Wednesday, the examination was conducted by Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Medical University/PIMS, Islamabad in Pak-China Friendship Centre, Islamabad on 2nd of June 2016.

UVAS syndicate approves Rs3 billion annual budget

Lahore:30 June:The Syndicate of University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore on Wednesday approved Rs3.02 billion budget for the financial year 2016-17.

According to a press release issued here on Wednesday, Vice-Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha, while chairing the 44th syndicate meeting, said that focus would be on applied research and development projects for further improving the quality of education and services at the university.

He told the meeting that Rs1.624 billion had been allocated for development projects.

LHC gives last chance to UHS VC to comply with order

Lahore:30 June:Justice Ali Akbar Qureshi of the Lahore High Court has given last chance to the vice-chancellor of University of Health Science to comply with the earlier court order within 10 days, otherwise, contempt of court proceedings would be initiated against him in addition to imposition of heavy cost.

The judge issued this order on a contempt of court application of Dr Qaisar Rasheed who had sought directions from the court for the VC to remove his concerns about the quality of the research and teaching at the university.

Virtual University And GC University Faisalabad MoU:

Lahore:June 29: Virtual University (VU) and Government College Women University Faisalabad (GCWUF) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for collaboration in academic, research, human and infrastructural resources.

Virtual University Rector Dr Naveed A Malik and Government College Women University Faisalabad  Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Naureen Aziz Qureshi signed the MoU.

The two top universities will also develop joint research projects and programmes in line with the national priorities for influencing policies through evidence generation.The news.

Education share in budget declining: Alif Ailaan

Lahore:28 June:Speakers at a post budget session on Monday expressed concern at the progressive decline in share of education sector in the provincial budget over the past few years.

Statistics shared at the session organised by Alif Ailaan showed that in 2013-14 26 per cent of the provincial budget was allocated to the education sector. The share of the sector came down to 24 per cent in 2014-15 and to 21.4 per cent in 2015-16.

In the 2016-17 budget, funds allocated for the education sector came to 18.6 per cent of the provincial budget.

Medical colleges directed to resolve admin issues

Lahore:27 June:All the principals of medical colleges have been directed to resolve the managerial issues, maintain discipline, ensure presence of doctors, nurses, cleanliness and functioning of biomedical equipment in their attached teaching hospitals within a month.

Government, for the first time has allocated Rs24 billion for specialised healthcare and medical education and all the officers concerned have to work hard to achieve the targets fixed by Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

PU Syndicate meeting spoiled in scuffle

LAHORE:25 June: Punjab University (PU) Syndicate meeting, scheduled by ‘look after’ Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, on Saturday was spoiled by scuffle between two groups of the teachers in the Syndicate room.

According to the details, PU Law College Assistant Professor Naeem Ullah physically assaulted his colleague Dr Naveed Ahmad, adding that Institute of Quality and Technology Management Assistant Professor (IQTM) Dr Muhammad Shafiq manhandled Syndicate member Shamaila Gull and threatened her of consequences.

Punjab University awarded PhDs to Two Scholars

Shahbaz Sharif plan of emergency care at Universities

Lahore:June 25:Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday formed a committee to devise a plan for arrangement of emergency medical care at universities in the province.

The decision was taken in view of a report submitted by the CM’s Inspection Team on the death of University of Engineering and Technology (UET) student Moeen Manzoor on Friday.

The report stated that the student had died of heart attack. It said there was no arrangement at the university for provision of emergency medical care.
