Former VC of Punjab University Dr Rafique Ahmed laid to rest

LAHORE :26 March:Former vice-chancellor of Punjab University and renowned activist of Pakistan Movement Prof Dr Rafique Ahmed passed away here Wednesday. He was laid to rest at Hazrat Mian Mir village graveyard. His Namaz-e-Janaza was led by Pir Syed Munawar Hussain Shah Jamati. NPT Vice-Chairman Mian Farooq Altaf, Jamaat-e-Islami Naib Ameer Liaquat Baloch, Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Dr Niaz Ahmad, Prof Dr Mazhar Saleem, Hafiz Marghoob Ahmad Hamdani, Akhtar Hussain Qureshi and people from different walks of life attended. He is survived by one son, Dr Fawad Ahmad.

Pakistani engineers develop anti-bacterial wipes to protect from coronavirus

LAHORE :24 March: The Punjab University’s chemical engineers have developed anti-bacterial disposable wipes and sanitiser on a par with the standards of the World Health Organisation (WHO) to help protect people from coronavirus. Addressing a press briefing on Sunday, Punjab University (PU) Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Akhter said people were ignoring many things which could be a source of spreading coronavirus such as mobile phones, purses, keys, pens, door handles, stair railings, ATMs and public washrooms.

PUnjab University engineers make wipes, sanitiser

LAHORE:23 March:Punjab University’s chemical engineers have developed anti-bacterial disposable wipes and sanitizer as per WHO guidelines which would help to protect people from coronavirus. In this regard, PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad addressed a press briefing along with Department of Polymer Engineering and Technology’s associate professors Dr Bilal Haider, Dr Atif Islam, Assistant Professor Dr Areeba Farooq, student volunteers, including Hamza Javed, Rahat Rashid, Hafiz Abdullah, Muhammad Asad and Musa Raza at Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology (ICET) here Sunday.

Governor Sarwar inaugurates telemedicine centre at PU

LAHORE :22 March: Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar inaugurated a telemedicine centre at Punjab University Teaching Hospital here on Saturday. PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad, Punjab Corona Response Team Member and PU Telemedicine Centre Focal Person Dr Zeeshan Danish, Chief Medical Officer Dr Muhammad Akram, Dr Tahseen Zameer and other doctors were present on the occasion. Talking to the media, Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar lauded Punjab University’s role in combating coronavirus. He also praised the PU VC and his team.

University of Engineering signs MoU for paperless ECAT

LAHORE :22 March: University of Engineering and Technology (UET), and Virtual University of Pakistan have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to conduct paperless Engineering College Admission Test (ECAT). UET Lahore Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar and VU Rector Naeem Tariq accompanied by VU Controller of Examination Dr Faisal Tehseen Shah signed the MoU. Under the MoU, computer-based combined entry test 2020 will be conducted by University of Engineering and Technology Lahore in Punjab.

Varsities power shift: Solar energy to save Rs256 million annually

LAHORE:20 February: Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar on Wednesday said 10 major universities of the province, including Punjab University, will be switched over to solar energy in the first phase of a scheme, saving Rs256 million annually. “A total of Rs6.41 billion will be saved in 25 years,” he said during a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony held at Governor House. The Department of Energy and Punjab University signed the MoU under the project to convert all public sector universities to solar energy on the occasion.

Punjab University rally expresses solidarity with China

Lahore:11 February:Punjab University Punjab University along with Chinese students have expressed solidarity with China and its people coping with coronavirus. In this regard, a rally was taken out by PU Department of Political Science in which the participants were carrying placards inscribed with “We Stand with China”. Department of Political Science Chairperson Prof Dr Iram Khalid, Prof Dr Rana Ejaz, Dr Shabbir Ahmad Khan, students of the department and Chinese students of the university participated in the rally.

Punjab University seminar

LAHORE:04 February:A seminar on “Awareness Raising Sessions on Safe, Informed and Legal Migration” was held at the Punjab University’s Department of Gender Studies (DGS). The speaker, Rana Imran Arshad, informed the students that there were six types of visas which could be applied to enter into any foreign country. He said in Pakistan, 90pc visa applicants were the one who go overseas for work, 7pc for studies and 3pc sought permanent migration. The department’s faculty members and students attended the seminar.The news.

Punjab University to receive online forms of affiliated colleges

LAHORE:04 February:For the first time Punjab University (PU) Examinations Department will receive admission forms of students of affiliated colleges online in various degrees. The measure has been taken on the directions of PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad to facilitate students and administrative staff of affiliated colleges, who had to visit the university’s New Campus for this purpose from various parts of the country.

Punjab University student picked up by 'unidentified men

Lahore: 31 January:A Punjab University MPhil student who was allegedly picked up by "unidentified men" in Lahore early on Thursday morning has returned home, his family said. Mohsin Abdali, who is completing his MPhil in Agricultural Sciences at the university, was allegedly abducted by unidentified men from his residence in Lahore. An initial report of the incident, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com, was submitted by Abdali's family to Baghbanpura police station for the offence of kidnapping.

Punjab University organised an awareness workshop

Lahore:24 January: The faculty members and students at Punjab University’s Centre for Clinical Psychology (CCP) taking initiative for promotion of mental health organised an awareness workshop on “De-stressing the Stress” here on Thursday. The students from various universities in Lahore also participated in the event. Clinical psychologists briefed the audience about the stress, its impact on daily routine and the various techniques to manage it.The news.
