Teachers should be consulted on VCs criteria’

LAHORE:08 July: Federation of All Pakistan Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA), Punjab chapter, has demanded the provincial government that criteria for appointment of vice-chancellors (VCs) should be finalised after consulting all stakeholders, including the FAPUASA and specially its Punjab chapter. An emergency meeting of FAPUASA, Punjab chapter, was held at Punjab University here on Friday to discuss and deliberate over one-point agenda regarding formulation of criteria for the appointment of the VCs in the public sector universities of Punjab.

Information Technology University graduate admission deadline

LAHORE: One day is left for applying for graduate programmes including MS Computer Science, MS Electrical Engineering, MS Development Studies, Executive MBA (EMBITE), PhD Computer Science and PhD Electrical Engineering in Information Technology University (ITU) Punjab. July 5 is the deadline for admissions. Earlier, ITU held ‘Open House’ on April 11 to provide intermediate and A-level students and their guardians an opportunity for an orientation to the institution and the faculty.

LAHORE:July 5: The Information Technology University (ITU) on Monday announced to host the 9th international conference on Information and Communication Technologies and Development (ICTD) Pakistan 2017. The four-day conference will be held from November 16 to 19 November this year in the provincial capital. According to a statement, the ITU has set deadline for submission of short papers. Accepted papers will be presented at the conference as posters and the top notes will be invited for oral presentations, which will be made available in the ACM Digital Library.

Technical university to start admissions in October

LAHORE:July 5: A six-member delegation of Tianjin University of Technical Education (TUTE) China visited the Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) here on Tuesday to finalise the establishment of University of Technical and Vocational Education (UTVE). Punjab Minister for Industries Sheikh Allaudin, Tevta Chairman Irfan Qaiser Sheikh and Vice President TUTE Yan Bing were presen.

Lahore College for Women University conference next week

LAHORE :July 3:Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) will organise an international conference on emerging issues in management sciences next week. According to LCWU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Uzma Qureshi, the conference is aimed at bringing together the scholars, researchers, educators, students and other groups interested in research to present their works on the developments in management sciences.

5-year LLB programme not workable, court told

LAHORE:01 July:A commission on legal education and law colleges on Friday informed the Lahore High Court that 5-year degree programme of Bachelor in Legislative Law (LLB) was a poor programme and dangerous for the future of coming generations. The commission headed by Anwar Kamal submitted 18-page report before a three-member full bench of the Lahore High Court. The commission in its report claimed that five-year LLB programme seemed result of non-cooperation of various educational institutions and public administrative departments.

IT University,and University of Colorado will jointly install water ATM machines

LAHORE:11May: In a historical collaboration between the Information Technology University (ITU), Lahore and University of Colorado, United States, water ATM machines will be set up all across Punjab in order to provide clean drinking water to the people. According to reports, the whole project will cost around $374,599. The project will be undertaken under the Pakistan - United States Science and Technology Cooperation programme.

Rs15.7m donated to GC University for scholarships

LAHORE:11May:The Old Ravians and philanthropists donated about Rs 15.7 million to the Government College University’s Endowment Fund Trust (GCU-EFT) at the Annual Scholarship Distribution and Fundraising Dinner 2017 for the scholarships of the university’s financially-challenged students. Eminent nuclear scientist Dr Samar Mubarikmand was the chief guest at the ceremony to which donors were invited to meet the students who are being benefited from their donations.

Information Technology University Water quality

Lahore:June 10: Information Technology University (ITU) and University of Colorado Boulder (UCB) will work together to develop “Design and Implementation of Water ATMs – Water Dispensing and Quality Measurement Units” in Pakistan under Pakistan-United States Science and Technology Cooperation Programme. For this project, Dr Tauseef Tauqeer of ITU and Mustafa Naseem of UCB have jointly been awarded a competitive research grant of US $ 374,599 by the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) in the US and by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in Pakistan.
