Lahore:31 March: Lahore General Hospital (LGH) has completed arrangements for setting up corona wards and ICUs in two nearby private hospitals and has released the duty roster of doctors and paramedics. Principal Postgraduate Medical Institute Prof Dr Alfreed Zafar visited these hospitals on Monday and issued necessary instructions to the LGH administration.

LAHORE:31 March:In line with directions of the federal HEC, Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) has announced treating the ongoing closure until May 31 as summer vacation and suspended online classes for its students. It is pertinent to mention that recently the HEC had asked universities to start teaching online if they had well-instituted and operational learning management system (LMS); otherwise, the universities might choose to remain closed for all formal academic processes until May 31, 2020, and consider the break period as summer vacation.
LAHORE:31 March: Chief Secretary Major (r) Azam Suleman Khan has directed that in order to contain spread of coronavirus, participants in Tableeghi Ijtmaats be stopped in the district where they are present and screening of all of them, including foreigners be conducted. He issued these directions while presiding over a meeting to review administrative affairs, testing process of coronavirus and steps to minimise educational losses due to the lockdown. Senior Member Board of Revenue (SMBR), Additional Chief Secretary Home, IG Punjab and officers concerned attended the meeting.
Lahore:31 March:The COVID-19 pandemic that resulted in the closure of most of the educational institutions across the globe has also affected the education of 46.8 million schoolchildren in Pakistan. The data of the United Nations Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organisation (Unesco) shows that 8.6 million of them are enrolled at pre-primary learning centres, 22.9 million at primary schools, 13.36 million at secondary schools and 1.88 million at tertiary-level institutions.
LAHORE :29 March: Two working groups from Chemical Engineering and Chemistry departments of University of Engineering and Technology, under the supervision of their deans, have produced multiple lines of sanitisers, liquid disinfectant soaps, herbal antiviral disinfectants, and alcohol-based sprays. The groups have produced these items according to the formulations recommended by World Health Organisation (WHO). The university has distributed sanitisers and disinfectant liquid soap among 163 international students who are living in the hostels, guards, and other essential staff.
LAHORE:29 March: PML-N President and National Assembly Opposition Leader Shahbaz Sharif has demanded that patients suffering from Covid-19 must be removed from mainstream hospitals forthwith and instead marriage halls, schools, colleges and mosques should be used as quarantine facilities.
LAHORE:28 March: A Chinese university, Kunming University of Science and Technology, has announced that it would set up a hospital in Lahore for prevention from corona and conducting research on the deadly virus. The university will also donate corona test kits, masks and gloves to Pakistan. Kunming University of Science and Technology and University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore have also constituted a joint research group.
LAHORE:28 March:Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar visited the quarantine centre in Government College University Lahore. The Punjab governor said carelessness for a moment could cause death during coronavirus pandemics. He said “Covid-19 has become greatest challenge for Pakistan but we will defeat it by unity.” He stated all medical and paramedical staff especially the doctors were fighting coronavirus on the frontline. Universities are also playing vital role, he added.

LAHORE :26 March:Former vice-chancellor of Punjab University and renowned activist of Pakistan Movement Prof Dr Rafique Ahmed passed away here Wednesday. He was laid to rest at Hazrat Mian Mir village graveyard. His Namaz-e-Janaza was led by Pir Syed Munawar Hussain Shah Jamati. NPT Vice-Chairman Mian Farooq Altaf, Jamaat-e-Islami Naib Ameer Liaquat Baloch, Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Dr Niaz Ahmad, Prof Dr Mazhar Saleem, Hafiz Marghoob Ahmad Hamdani, Akhtar Hussain Qureshi and people from different walks of life attended. He is survived by one son, Dr Fawad Ahmad.
LAHORE:26 March:In the wake of Coronavirus outbreak, all the academic departments of Government College University (GCU) Lahore have been fast switching to virtual teaching for the students of all degree programmes. GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi has directed the chairpersons of the departments to maintain the record of all online classes, digital handouts and recorded audio and video lectures besides ensuring necessary training and facilitation of faculty members by the newly formed Directorate of IT.
Lahore:25 March: The Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) has issued an advisory to the dental practitioners across the province to adopt maximum precautionary measures for avoiding the spread of the coronavirus. The PHC has instructed the dental surgeons to plan visits of their patients in such a way that there is no over-crowding, and display coronavirus-related information material at their clinics. Moreover, dental surgeons have been asked to encourage their patients not to visit clinics unless there is an unavoidable emergency.
