Gandhara University may be Renamed

Lahore:October 30: An advisory committee formed by Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) on Saturday proposed changing the name of Gandhara University, Taxila, with Buddha or Siddharat University as a university with the name of Gandhara already existed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to a press release, it was proposed in the meeting of the advisory committee held with ETPB Chairman Siddiq-ul-Farooq the chair.

Professionalism in medical education stressed

Lahore:October 29:Secretary, Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Punjab, Najam Ahmad Shah has said that most complaints are about doctors’ behaviour and not their lack of knowledge.

    Speaking at the inaugural session of an international conference on medical education at the University of Health Sciences (UHS) here on Friday he said although the primary role of a doctor was that of the healer, one must simultaneously maintain professionalism in medical practice.

University of Health Sciences issues first merit list for MBBS, BDS

Lahore:October 29:University of Health Sciences (UHS) on Friday issued the first selection list of candidates admitted to MBBS and BDS programme in public sector medical and dental colleges of the Punjab for the session 2016-17, according to which last merit for MBBS is 88.6818 and that for BDS 88.5545 percent.A UHS spokesperson said the merit had been calculated as per the weightage formula of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC), adding 10 percent of matriculation, 40 percent of intermediate and 50 percent of entrance test marks.

Educate a Girl completion of a fully-funded Vocational Course

Lhore:28 October:Educate a Girl’ celebrated the completion of a fully-funded vocational course for 1,000 deserving girls in Karachi who were imparted journalism training and assisted in finding jobs so they may achieve sustainability and, eventually, be donors themselves.

    The celebration was hosted by Lincoln’s Corner, Pakistan American Cultural Centre

Scholarships for AIDS research for PhD and MPhil Students

 Lahore:28 October:Punjab AIDS Control Programme, first time in the history of health department, has announced scholarships for PhD and MPhil students for their research work in the subjects related to AIDS control programme.

According to the programme, 20 scholarships for PhD and 30 for MPhil students would be awarded. Besides, Rs40,000 scholarships would be paid to PhD whereas Rs20,000 to MPhil students.

Youth convention at University of Veterinary Sciences

 Lahore:28 October:Umeed-e-Seher, second Youth Convention 2016, organised by Intellectual Development and Educational Awareness Society (IDEAS) of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences was held at the varsity on Thursday.

UVAS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha chaired the inaugural session of the convention while senior UVAS tutor Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf and many renowned guest speakers from across Pakistan including actor Adeel Hashmi, Pakistani national cycling record holder Samar Khan and a large number of students and faculty members were present.
