Punjab signs accords to facilitate development process

Lahore:August 17:The Punjab government on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and a Letter of Understanding (LoU) with the Health Services Academy (HSA), Islamabad.

On behalf of the Punjab government, Member (Health) P&D Board Dr Shabana Haider signed the MoU and LoU. Dr Syed Turab Hussain, associate professor signed the MoU on behalf of Mahbub-ul-Haq Research Centre, LUMS while Dr Saima Hamid, assistant professor and registrar signed the LoU on behalf of HSA, Islamabad.

Reply sought on plea to Extend Vacation

Lahore:August 17:The Lahore High Court on Tuesday sought reply from the Punjab government on a petition moved to extend summer vacation in the wake of alleged rising tide of children kidnapping in various parts of Punjab.

    Javed, a local resident, filed the petition and submitted that summer vacation had ended up. Millions of children would attend the schools but there were no security arrangements for the children students, he said.

Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education Lahore Chairman Appointed

Lahore:August 17:After a lapse of a year and a half, the Punjab government has formally posted a regular chairman at the Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore.  Prof Ch Muhammad Ismail joined the office of the BISE Chairman on Tuesday. Earlier, he served as Director of Education (Colleges), Multan. Dr Muhammad Nasrullah Virk served as acting chairman of the board after his tenure expired on March 28, 2015. He is considered among competent officers of the department and is likely to be posted at Directorate of Staff Development (DSD).The news.


School teacher leaves servant black and blue

DERA GHAZI KHAN:16 August:An eight-year-old household help was beaten up badly on Monday by an English teacher at a Daanish School. The child’s family said they would not take action against the teacher.

The child had been doing chores in the kitchen when she accidently dropped a pot of milk. Sadia Nazir, her employer, beat the girl up badly for “wasting milk”. The girl ended up with black eyes and a swollen face. Nazir took her to the school dispensary at Daanish School for treatment.

NAB launches book for primary level children

Lahore:15 August:Education Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmad, Finance Minister Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, the Planning and Development Board chairman, the secretaries of School Education, Local Government and Health Departments, the Punjab Information Technology Board chairman and the National Engineering Services of Pakistan managing director attended the meeting. Minister Tanvir Aslam Malik participated in the meeting via video link from the Commissioner’s Office in Rawalpindi.

Rs15b to be spent on building classrooms: Shahbaz

Lahore:15 August:Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday approved the Khadim-i-Punjab Schools Programme under which additional classrooms would be constructed at schools. The chief minister chaired a meeting in which he also approved design of the classrooms.

He told the participants that thousands of classrooms would be constructed at a cost of Rs15 billion. He said the classrooms would be built in 16 southern Punjab districts on a priority basis. “The provincial government has been working on a programme aimed at providing quality education and missing facilities at schools.”

Students and their teachers attended Independence Day celebrations at University of Education.

Vice Chancellor Rauf-i-Azam hoisted the flag. “Pakistan is a blessing of God. We must follow Jinnah’s principles of unity, faith and discipline to achieve success,” he said.

Forman Christian College University

Lahore:15 August:At the Forman Christian College University (FCCU), the Independence Day ceremony started with recitations from the Holy Quran and the Holy Bible.

Rector James Tebbe raised the national flag. Faculty and staff members, including Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Joseph Jones, Registrar Hamid Saeed, Intermediate Vice Rector CJ Dubash and Chief Security Officer Col Khaqan Mahmood were also present. FCCU Security Guards Corps saluted the flag and the participants sang the national anthem.

Flag hoisting ceremonies at Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi:15 August: The Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) arranged a Flag-hoisting ceremony to mark the Independence Day with traditional zeal and enthusiasm here on Sunday.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad hoisted the national Flag on the main campus while deans of all faculties, administrative officers, faulty members, employees and a large number of students attended the ceremony.

Lahore:15 August: A flag hoisting ceremony was arranged at College of Physicians & Surgeons Pakistan, Regional Centre.

Besides members of the council, Prof Mahmood Ayyaz, Prof Aamer Zaman Khan, Prof Muhammad Tayyab, Prof Moeed Iqbal, Prof Zahid Kamal, Prof Abrar Ashraf Ali, Prof Ijaz Hussain, Prof Kamran Khalid Khawaja, Prof Syed Asghar Naqi, Dr Ahmed Uzair Qureshi, Dr Fozia Karim, a large number of fellows and senior professors attended the ceremony.
