Poetic soiree held in Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi:19 August:No matter what the city’s air — the sunshine or rain — the venue is near or far-off, the Pindiites love to listen to poetry. Al-Qaim Hospital, Saidpur Road, took lead in hosting the all city ‘Mushaira’ held yesterday at its air-conditioned auditorium.

The ‘Mushaira’ was held in the backdrop of the centennial celebrations of the Farhat Literary Circle. It struck a chord with Pindiites. The mesmerised audience was hooked on to their seats. ‘Mushaira’ brought out some eccentrics as well but no poet’s feelings were hurt.

PEF enhances cash prizes for position-holder students

Lahore:19 August: Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) has enhanced amount of cash prizes for position-holder students of its partner schools.

Now the overall first position holders of Boards of Intermediate & Secondary Education (BISEs) and Punjab Examination Commission (PEC) exams would be given Rs 50,000 cash prize each. Similarly, Rs 40,000 will be given to overall second position-holder while Rs 30,000 will be given to third position-holder.

Lecture on Congo Virus with professors, physicians

Lahore:19 August: A team of experts from Turkey shared its experiences on Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) with professors, physicians and health administrators in Punjab in a consultative workshop on CCHF at a local hotel on Thursday.

    Due to a higher prevalence of CCHF, Turkey has abundant experience of dealing with the disease with three percent mortality rate, far less than other countries in the world. Given their success, the Punjab government requested the Turkish government to send their experts for experience-sharing sessions with Pakistani professionals.

Results of Class 9 Annual Exam declared on Saturday

Lahore:19 August: Results of Secondary School (Class 9) Annual Examination 2016 will be declared on Saturday (tomorrow).

    A spokesperson for Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education (BISE) said the educational institutions who want to avail the Computer Result CD may deposit Rs 100/- in HBL, Board Branch till August 19. The bank challan should be submitted in the Sale Depot of BISE, Lahore.The news.

British Firm to hire 5,000 Youths

Lahore:19 August:Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) will provide services of 5,000 youths to British 1st Company after giving them required training.

It was informed by Tevta Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh while addressing delegation of People 1st Company of British Council headed by Jane Rexworthy.

British People 1st Company has demanded 5,000 Tevta trained manpower in hospitality and salesman sector to provide them jobs in UK.

Private school de-sealed on assurance

Lahore:18 August:A private school in Johar Town sealed on Wednesday for not paying commercialisation fee was de-sealed after the administration gave in writing an assurance to the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) that they would clear the dues soon.

The brief episode caused inconvenience to some parents. They had to return to the Askari Public School sometime after dropping their children in the morning on watching private television channels running a report about children ‘left locked inside’ the school by the LDA team that sealed it.

‘Vocational education gateway to progress

Lahore:18 August:Executive Director, National Vocational & Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC), Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema has said that technical and vocational training in different useful trades is playing an important role to eliminate unemployment form the country.

He said this while awarding certificates to the students, who completed one year training in Fashion & Textile designing under Prime Minister Hunarmand Programme, during a convocation in a private vocational training institute here on Wednesday.

Girls grab top positions in HSSC Part-II exams

Rawalpindi:August 18:The girls following their traditions once again attained first top three positions in the Higher Secondary School Certificate Part-II Annual Examination of Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education.

    The examinations were held in the months of April to June this year.

    The overall pass percentage of regular and private candidates, including ex-candidates, remained 74.33 per cent in the examination this year.

Teachers take your job Seriously

BAHAWALPUR:17 August:The government will disburse development funds to heads of schools directly so they can initiate projects according to needs and requirements, Minister for Education Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan said on Tuesday. “The idea is to make the schools’ environment pleasant and conducive to children’s education.”

Mashhood was addressing a training session of newly-appointed educators from various schools at the Government Girls High School, Khanpur. The minister said that the budget for education this year was the highest it had been in the last decade.

Punjab signs accords to facilitate development process

Lahore:August 17:The Punjab government on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and a Letter of Understanding (LoU) with the Health Services Academy (HSA), Islamabad.

On behalf of the Punjab government, Member (Health) P&D Board Dr Shabana Haider signed the MoU and LoU. Dr Syed Turab Hussain, associate professor signed the MoU on behalf of Mahbub-ul-Haq Research Centre, LUMS while Dr Saima Hamid, assistant professor and registrar signed the LoU on behalf of HSA, Islamabad.
