Punjab University Girls bag Top Positions in BA/BSc

Lahore:30 august: Punjab University on Monday announced the results of BA/BSc Annual Examination 2016, according to which, the overall pass percentage remained 37.66.

    According to the results, all the top three positions were clinched by the girls in BSc examination. BSc student Ms Huma, roll number 15881, bagged overall first position by scoring 702 marks out of 800; BSc student Zara Nasir, roll number 10473, stood second by securing 699 marks and BSc student Maryam Saba, roll number 23441, stood third by securing 697 marks.

Workshop at University of Engineering Lahore

Lahore:30 august:The stakeholder consultation workshop on Water Resources Management organised by the Centre of Excellence in Water Resources Engineering of the University of Engineering & Technology (UET) in the collaboration with STEDEC Technology Commercialisation Corporation of Pakistan was held here on Monday.

Renowned experts from across Pakistan attended the workshop while Federal Minister for Science & Technology and Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain was the chief guest on the occasion.

50,000 more scholarships for students in 2017

Lahore:30 august: The Punjab Higher Education Department will distribute 50,000 more scholarships in 2017 and the volume of Punjab Educational Endowment Fund will reach Rs11 billion.

Provincial Minister for Higher Education Begum Zakia Shahnawaz presided over a review meeting here today regarding distribution of scholarships among poor and talented students in nine divisional headquarters under Punjab Educational Endowment Fund.

An upward of 56,000 students sit UHS test

Lahore:29 August: A total of 56,272 candidates -- 36,542 female and 19,730 male -- appeared amid tight security in the entrance test for admission to the public and private sector medical and dental colleges in Punjab on Sunday.

The test was conducted by the University of Health Sciences (UHS) simultaneously at 27 centres set up in Lahore, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Gujrat, Gujranwala Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, Rawalpindi, Sialkot and Hasan Abdal under the supervision of more than 5,000 invigilators and other staff.

Schools told to deploy guards at student vans

Lahore:August 29:Lahore High Court Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah directed the school administrations last week to deploy security guards at pick-and-drop vans for schoolchildren.

The judge issued these directives on Advocate Zain Sikandar’s petition seeking directions for schools to deploy security guards on student vans. He said that incidents of kidnapping of schoolchildren had been on the rise and most of the children were kidnapped on their way to school or on way home. He said that parents were concerned about the security of their children.

Medical education: 56,272 sit Test in 13 Cities

LAHORE:August 29:As many as 56,272 candidates (36,542 women and 19,730 men) sat the medical and dental colleges’ entrance test on Sunday.

The test was held amid tight security arrangements at 27 centres set up in 13 cities by the University of Health Sciences (UHS). It started at 9am though test takers had started arriving at the centres as early as 6am.

The UHS has deputed around 5,000 officials to perform invigilation and supervision duties.

120 women Start Driving Training in Multan

MULTAN:August 29:A batch of 120 women on Sunday started motorcycle driving training under the Women on Wheels programme of the provincial government.

Speaking to the media, Multan RPO Sultan Azam Taimoori said initially 120 women were selected for the training. He said they would soon seek more applications for training. He said those interested in participating in future training programmes should visit the RPO’s office with a copy of their computerised national identity card (CNIC) to register with the programme.

Teachers to stage sit-in Asataza Alliance Punjab

Lahore:August 29:All Asataza Alliance Punjab (AAAP) has announced that the teachers will stage a sit-in on Tuesday outside the office of the Punjab chief secretary to protest against privatisation of public schools and non-upgrade of teaching posts.

In a press release, AAAP central President Sufi Ramazan Inqilabi said the government’s indifferent attitude vis-à-vis these issues forced the schoolteachers to take to the streets. He said the teachers would get their rights through peaceful protests on roads as the government did not bother to listen to them.  

Dengue seminar Bhogiwal school Lahore

Lahore:August 29:Town Municipal Officer Tariq Malik addressed a seminar on dengue at a local school in Bhogiwal, NA-123, on Sunday.  According to a press release, the TMO sensitised the students and school staff about dengue and the way how it could be prevented.

He said the government was taking all possible measures to protect the population from dengue and had been successful in defeating it.The news.

JICA to provide Funds for Colleges

Lahore:August 29:Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide an assistance of 614 million Yen and grant-in-aid to Tevta during 2016 to 2019 for development of Government College of Technology Faisalabad as centre of excellence and upgrade of 13 other government colleges of technology across Punjab.  

Tevta Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said this while addressing a seminar “JICA Support to Promote Technical Education and Vocational Training System in Punjab” at a local hotel here on Sunday.

New classrooms to be built in DG Khan

DERA GHAZI KHAN::August 28:“As many as 1,401 new classrooms will be constructed across Dera Ghazi Khan. The provincial government has allocated Rs2 billion for this purpose,” Assistant Commissioner Asghar Majeed said on Saturday.

He was addressing a meeting. The commissioner said the classrooms would be constructed along modern lines. “High quality material would be used for the construction,” he said.

2 Pakistanis capoeiristas graduate from Brazil

Rawalpindi:August 28:Two Pakistanis Shayan Ali and Fawaz Mir, who are Capoeira practitioners, a Brazilian martial art, have graduated in this form of sport from its ABADA School based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In July this year both the aspirants of this recently introduced martial art travelled to Brazil, where they performed their skills and hence they were awarded with certificates.
