Call for interaction between psychiatry and neurology

Rawalpindi:August 06:The Institute of Psychiatry here at Benazir Bhutto Hospital in town hosted a lecture on ‘Dementia: An Overview & Recent Advances in Management’ with a special emphasise on the need for an increased interaction between psychiatry and neurology.

The guest speaker was Consultant Neurologist at Shifa International Hospital Professor Arsalan Ahmad was the guest speaker at the lecture that was attended by psychologists and residents and consultants from both neurology and psychiatry departments.

TEVTA to train 100,000 Drivers

Lahore:August 05:The Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA), in collaboration with CAREEM Networks, would train and provide jobs in transport sector to 100,000 unemployed youth over three years.

“The collaboration will bring about a change in the country’s traffic system,” TEVTA Chairperson Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said after signing an MoU with CAREEM Networks Pakistan Chief Executive Officer Junaid Iqbal.

Training: University to offer pre-degree course with TEVTA

Lahore:August 05:Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA), in collaboration with Muhammad Nawaz Shareef University of Agriculture Multan (MNS UAM), will offer a two years pre-agriculture programme at the TEVTA Institute in Multan.  This course will help to promote the agriculture sector in and outside the country, especially in southern Punjab.  In this regard, an MoU was signed between the TEVTA and the MNS UAM on Wednesday at TEVTA Secretariat. Chairman TEVTA Irfan Qaiser Sheikh and MNS UAM Vice Chancellor Asif Ali signed the memorandum.

Students visit army units and formations

Lahore:August 05:A group of 100 students and faculty members from a private girls college spent a day-out, visiting various military units and formations of Pakistan Army at Lahore Garrison.

The daylong programme was specifically organised to enlighten students on routine functioning of Pakistan Army, its organisation and defence capability - A programme ‘Know your Army’, has been exclusively initiated for the youth on instructions of Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif.

90,000 students registered themselves under Online College System

Lahore:August 05:Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) Chairman Dr Umar Saif has said that 90,000 students registered themselves under Online College System within two weeks.

He said this while addressing a meeting held at Arfa IT Tower on Thursday. Dr Saif revealed that this year 705 public colleges were accepting admission applications online against 650 colleges last year. He said that the number of public colleges was increasing in this regard day by day that showed the system was highly efficient and cost effective.

University of Health Sciences Considers Thesis Reports

Lahore:August 05:The 116th meeting of Advanced Studies and Research Board of University of Health Sciences (UHS) was held here on Thursday with Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Junaid Sarfraz in the chair.

According to a press release, the board considered the thesis reports of Dr Sania Asif, MPhil, anatomy, Dr Ayesha Samad Dogar, MPhil, haematology, Sumra Batool, MPhil, human genetics, Dr Maryam Nazar, MPhil, oral pathology, Hira Shahid, MPhil, pharmacology, Dr Samra Sulaiman, MPhil, pharmacology, Dr Nilofar Shahzadi, MHPE and Dr Mona Mazhar, MPhil, physiology.

PMAS-AAUR to provide technical help to Sports Board

Rawalpindi:August 04:Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) will provide technical assistance to the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) in the area of water management, plantation and improving landscape of PSB complex.

This was decided in a meeting between Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Riaz Hussain Pirzada and PMAS-AAUR Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rai Niaz Ahmad on August 3.

PEF to devise partner schools upgradation

Lahore:August 04: The Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) would devise a comprehensive policy mechanism to deal with upgradation of partner schools in accordance with respective programme’s policies, so that the students could continue their free studies in higher grades.

    PEF Managing Director Tariq Mahmood said this while presiding over a weekly coordination meeting at his office on Wednesday, according to a handout issued here. Deputy MD (Ops), programme directors and other officers attended the meeting. Meeting reviewed pace of progress on free educational programmes.

Punjab CM to pay surprise visits to schools

Rawalpindi:03 August: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif would pay surprise visits to the public sector schools in all the districts including Rawalpindi after the summer vacations and hold on-the-spot probe from the teachers into the administrative affairs and quality of education.

The directives issued by the Punjab Education Department stated that there should be monitoring committees headed by District Coordination Officers (DCOs) in every district that must pay two visits in a week to different public sector schools to review arrangements and standard of education.

ETPB to give land for Navy War College

Lahore:August 03:Navy Station Commander Air Commodore SM Shahzad Tuesday called upon Chairman Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Siddiq-ul-Farooq and requested him for some piece of land of the trust for Navy War College.

According to a press release issued Tuesday, the ETPB chairman assured the visiting guest of his complete cooperation and support saying the board following legal formalities would provide the required land.

Teachers warn against schools privatisation

Lahore:August 03:A new grand alliance of teachers “Punjab Teachers Council” has demanded the Punjab government immediately withdraw its notification to privatise public schools by handing over them to private sector through Punjab Education Foundation (PEF).

The alliance demanded the government refrain from handing over public schools to Danish Schools and Centres of Excellence Authority. These demands were put forward in a joint meeting of different teachers associations which announced launching the movement under a joint platform—Punjab Teachers Council (PTC).
