UoE students block road for love of teacher

Lahore: A good number of male and female students of University of Education remained on roads for hours and staged a sit-in in front of Punjab Governor House on Thursday in favor of their teacher Professor Dr. Muhammad Anwar-ur-Rehman Pasha who was terminated by University Vice Chancellor Mrs. Farhat Saleem on January 17, 2011. Angry protestors chanted slogans against VC and demanded the immediate restoration of their teacher Dr. Anwar.
It is worth mentioning here that Mrs Pasah who was also terminated on same day has been reinstated. Office bearers of Joint Action Committee (JAC) of University claimed that police also resorted to baton charge but no injury was reported. The students remained five to six hours on The Mall and staged a sit-in in front of governor house in the meanwhile Governor Punjab, Latif Khosa invited the students for negotiations. The governor told them that he has sent the summary to Chief Minister Punjab for further action and they (students) should contact Chief Minister House for any development.

The students then moved to GOR 7-Club and remained present before Chief Minister Complaint Cell but no body listened to them.

A student Waqas said that (today) it is 46th day of the termination of their honorable teacher and they were facing loss of education but Punjab government was unmoved.

"Here mater of petroleum products prices gain attention of rulers and these prices are settled down within no time, loss of education has no importance with rulers".

He said, "Our classes are not being taken for the last one and half month and six to seven hundreds students are being effected whose annual exams are approaching". A female students said that it is irony of fate that the Acting Vice Chancellor Mrs. Farhat Saleem terminated the services Dr. Muhammad Anwar-ur-Rehman Pasha and Dr. Shaheen Pasha without specifying any solid reason. The Acting Vice Chancellor was asked by a number of sources about the reason but she was unable to give a justification for the termination.

Mrs. Farhat Saleem had the fear that Dr. Pasha will invoke the students to go on a strike in order to get him selected as the Vice Chancellor so she terminated his services well before time, a students protested. Dr. Shaheen Pasha was a permanent employ and was serving in the Division of Education. She was not given a warning in form of a show cause notice neither was she called for an inquiry. Both the terminations were unlawful and illegal as per rules and regulations, a student said while shouting.

Dr. Muhammad Anwar-ur-Rehman Pasha has earned M. Sc. in Physics with distinction (Gold Medal) from Islamia University Bahawalpur in 1981 and a Ph.
