Lahore:April 20:Punjab University (PU) Syndicate members and teachers have appealed to Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Governor/Chancellor Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana to stop interim Vice-Chancellor from continuing alleged illegal practices at the university. They were addressing a press conference at the Lahore Press Club on Tuesday. Punjab University Syndicate members, including Javed Sami, Shumaila Gull and other faculty members said Dr Mujahid Kamran had a look after charge under which he could only perform routine activities.
“(Allegedly) Unlawfully appointed VC who is overage now, is taking policy decisions and appointing people in alleged violation of the law on contract. He is going to hold Senate elections in violation of the university rules, the teachers claimed. Only a full-time permanent VC can hold Senate election, they added.
“There is no regular registrar in the university, no treasurer and no regular VC. Under no provisions Senate election could be held in this situation,” said Samee Uzair, Assistant Professor at the PU Law College. “The current meeting of Finance and Planning Committee approved budgets of tens of millions of rupees which was allegedly illegal. Deputy Secretary and Section Officer attended this meeting who were not even authorised to attend these meetings. Only one member present in the meeting Ambreen Javed was legal member”, Javed Sami said, adding “One of the members wrote a letter and refused to attend this meeting saying it was illegal.” The PU teachers said election commissioner announced for holding Senate election was himself contesting the election. “Additional Registrar Kamran Abid was part of election commission and he himself was contesting for Senate. The CM and Governor should take the notice of it and Senate election shouldn’t be allowed to be held, and Dr Mujahid Kamran be removed immediately for smooth running of university matters in legal manner” they demanded. The news.
