Lahore:April 09: Pakistan’s first international conference on forensic psychiatry “Healing the Held” began at the University of Health Sciences (UHS) here on Friday.
According to the organizers the 2-day conference, being organized in collaboration with Higher Education Commission (HEC), aims at enhancing awareness about forensic issues prevalent within mentally ill and disordered offenders and the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of such persons. Besides healthcare professionals and forensic experts, a large number of jurists, lawyers, staff of prisons and law enforcing agencies, and human right activists are participating in the conference.
The conference will be formally inaugurated on Saturday. Senior judge of Supreme Court of Pakistan, Justice Mian Saqib Nisar will be the chief guest.
security: In a bid to improve security, the Commissioner Lahore Division Friday directed all Assistant Commissioners and Town Municipal Officers (TMOs) to coordinate with police and hold joint visits of public parks and other sensitive places of the provincial metropolis.
Commissioner Lahore Abdullah Khan Sumbal issued the directions while chairing a high-level meeting. Senior police and CDGL officials were also present. The meeting reviewed the security arrangements taken by police in the aftermath of Gulshan-e-Iqbal suicide bombing. The Commissioner Lahore has directed PHA to improve and enhance security of 21 A-plus category parks in the city.
