JICA to give Rs640m to Tevta

Lahore:April 07:Chairperson TEVTA Irfan Qaiser Sheikh has said the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide technical assistance and Grant-in-Aid worth Rs. 640 million to Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) for development of Government College of Technology Faisalabad as centre of excellence and upgrade of other 11 government colleges of technologies across the province of the Punjab.

He was addressing a meeting of the Joint Coordination Committee of the JICA on Wednesday at TEVTA Secretariat. This meeting was attended by senior representative JICA in Pakistan Motoo Taki, JICA Project Chief Kakisu San, Expert JICA Akira Oda, Chief Operating Officer TEVTA Jawad Ahmed Qureshi, Former President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry Engr. Suhail Bin Rasheed, Member Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry Faheem-ur-Rehman Sehgal, Member PAPAM Association Rehan Ejaz, Representative of P&D, Industries Department and officers of TEVTA.

Irfan Qaiser said the JICA has already provided Rs. 860 million for machinery and equipment for the centres of excellence of Mechanical and Architecture Departments at Govenment Colleges of Technology Railway Road Lahore. New grant in aid will be beneficial for the establishment of centre of excellence at GCT Faisalabad and upgrade of further 11 Government Colleges of Technologies which included Government College of Technology Gujranwala, Jhelum, Layyah, Multan, Sangla Hill, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Sialkot, Bahawalpurt, Governmet Staff Training College Faisalabad and Government Swedish Pakistani College of Technology Gujrat. The main feature of this new project is to revise the curriculum for mechanical technology, provision of equipment and Training of Trainers (ToT).

Chairperson TEVTA further said the basic purpose for establishing the centere of excellence at GCT Faisalabad and upgrade of 11 colleges is to provide trained manpower according to the needs of the industry at national and international level. This decision has been taken after a successful launching of centre of excellence in D.A.E. Mechanical and Architecture Technology at Government College of Technology, Railway Road Lahore, with the technical and financial assistance of the JICA.

Establishment of Job placement cell at district and institutes will also be a part of this project for the provision of jobs for pass-outs of this project.The news.
