LAHORE:24 April:Government College University (GCU) Lahore on Thursday announced that it will resume online classes after the training of its teachers and quality control of courses. Prof Zaidi further said that the GCU constituted a “Panel for Digital Learning Environment” and embarked upon a four-dimension strategy comprising teachers’ training, preparation of approved online-ready courses, adoption of the Learning Management System (LMS) and procedures for online classes and providing time, support and guidance to students for readiness for online classes.
LAHORE:11April :In the wake of coronavirus outbreak, Government College University (GCU) Lahore has arranged its first online viva of a PhD candidate of Political Science, Ms Sadia Rafiq, who completed her research on the topic related to Sunni minorities in Iran. An external examiner, Prof Dr Umbreen Javaid, the Dean, Faculty of Behavioral & Social Sciences at Punjab University Lahore, conducted the PhD viva via Skype, while another examiner, Prof Dr Ishtiaq Ahmed Chaudhry, the former Dean of Bahauddin Zakria University Multan, was present in person at the GC University campus.
LAHORE:11April :Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid visited the 200-bed field hospital established at the Kala Shah Kaku (KSK) Campus of the Government College University (GCU) Lahore for coronavirus patients. GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi, Additional Secretary (Development) Primary and Secondary Health Care Department Umer Farooq and district administration officers were also present on the occasion.
LAHORE:09 April:Government College University (GCU) Lahore has established tele-counselling centre for providing free online counselling services to people dealing with anxiety, stress, fear or other psychological issues arising due to the global pandemic of coronavirus and lockdown in their houses.
LAHORE:28 March:Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar visited the quarantine centre in Government College University Lahore. The Punjab governor said carelessness for a moment could cause death during coronavirus pandemics. He said “Covid-19 has become greatest challenge for Pakistan but we will defeat it by unity.” He stated all medical and paramedical staff especially the doctors were fighting coronavirus on the frontline. Universities are also playing vital role, he added.
LAHORE:26 March:In the wake of Coronavirus outbreak, all the academic departments of Government College University (GCU) Lahore have been fast switching to virtual teaching for the students of all degree programmes. GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi has directed the chairpersons of the departments to maintain the record of all online classes, digital handouts and recorded audio and video lectures besides ensuring necessary training and facilitation of faculty members by the newly formed Directorate of IT.

Lahore:24 January: Government College University (GCU) here on Thursday launched a campaign “Know Your Sustainable Development Goals” for mainstreaming United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in teaching and learning experiences across the university. The campaign, jointly initiated by the university’s Environment Protection Society (EPS) in collaboration with the Green Box, is aimed at supporting and accelerating local and national capacity of key stakeholders, including teachers and students, to implement the SDGs.
LAHORE:22 January:Government College University (GCU) has introduced a biometric attendance system on a trial basis for intermediate students. GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi stated this while addressing the faculty of intermediate studies at the university’s Faiz Seminar Hall. The GCU faculty deans and the intermediate studies director were also present.
LAHORE :18 January:First time in its history, Government College University (GCU) has offered admissions to students in 11 foreign and national language courses, including Hindi, French, Russian, Turkish and German. A notification in this regard has been issued on the direction of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi who believes in promoting effective engagement of youths in academic as well as co-curricular activities.

LAHORE:15 January: Government College University (GCU) Zoology Department’s research on “transfection of locally isolated Wolbachia in Aedes aegypti” has won the first prize and cash award of Rs 100,000 at international conference on "Dengue Prevention and Control" organised by the Punjab government here at a local hotel. Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid handed over the cash award to principal researcher Prof Dr Nusrat Jahan at the concluding ceremony of the conference held under the auspices of provincial Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department.
LAHORE:10 January:Government College University (GCU) on Thursday organised a ceremony to celebrate the 98th birth anniversary of one of its most eminent alumni, Nobel Laureate Prof Dr Har Gobind Khorana. GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi while speaking on the occasion announced that the GCU Lahore would soon establish a research chair at its Chemistry Department in the name of Prof Khorana.
