YDA stages protest against termination of PIMS doctor

Rawalpindi: The Young Doctors Association (YDA), Punjab, staged a protest here on Thursday evening demanding cancellation of termination order of Dr. Aqeel Natt from rotation at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).

The YDA Punjab along with young doctors serving in the federal capital held a protest in front of the National Press Club, Islamabad, on Thursday evening.

The YDA also planned to stage a protest in front of the Parliament House after two days if the PIMS administration does not take back order of termination of Dr. Aqeel from rotation.

Dr Aqeel, who is general secretary of the YDA Rawalpindi Chapter, was on rotation to the PIMS Plastic Surgery Department for one month from where he was terminated on allegations of involvement in political activities on May 4. “The YDA has done all the diplomatic efforts for reinstatement of Dr Aqeel on one-month rotation at PIMS, but the PIMS administration paid no heed to the efforts made so far,” conveyed Chairman YDA Punjab Dr Muhammad Haroon to ‘The News’.

PIMS Executive Director Dr Mahmood Jamal has expressed to ‘The News’ that Dr Aqeel was terminated because he was planning a strike at PIMS. “We have decided to hold a series of protests for reinstatement of Dr Aqeel,” said President YDA Rawalpindi Chapter Dr Umar Saeed while talking to ‘The News’.

He added that the YDA would continue to stage protest till cancellation of order of termination of Dr Aqeel Natt. “We hold a protest in front of the National Press Club and if Dr Aqeel is not allowed to work on rotation at PIMS within next two days, the YDA would hold a sit-in protest in front of the Parliament House,” said Dr Umar. The news
