Lahore: 01 Dec: University of Central Punjab (UCP) has announced that Research and Development Centre (RDC) of Faculty of Commerce, University of Central Punjab Publishes the proceedings of conference held at University of Central Punjab on the topic of “Akhuwat-Exploring New Horizons of Microfinance”. The conference was jointly organized by University of Central Punjab, Dunya TV, and Akhuwat. Mian Amer Mahmood Chairman Board of Governors, University of Central Punjab was the chair of first session and Mr. Sartaj Aziz chaired the second session. Mr. Malcolm Harper an International Expert of Microfinance discussed the strengths of Akhuwat, some of which are unconventional. He presented a paper titled “Akhuwat – It Sometimes Makes Sense to Break the Rules”. A paper written by Prof. Ather Azim Khan on “Achieving Triple Bottom Line: Sustainability, Growth, and Welfare” was also presented. In addition to this Prof. A G Ghaffari, Prof. Mobin-ul-Haq, Prof. Naveed Yazdani presented a paper on “Metaphor as a Source of Organizational Development: A Case Study of Akhuwat”, Prof. Dr. Grace Clark presented a paper on “The Importance of Cultural Relevance to the Success of Microfinance”, Prof. Dr. Khalid Zaheer presented a paper titled Role of Mosque in Socioeconomic Development: The Akhuwat Experience”, Prof. Dr. Christopher Candland presented a paper on “Investor Capture of Conventional Microfinance and Lessons for Islamic Microfinance”, Mr. Agha Ali Javaid presented a paper on “Sustainability and Growth in Akhuwat: A Myth or Reality”, Prof. Dr. Faheem-ul-Islam presented a paper on Sustainability, Scalability, and Impact of Akhuwat”, Mr. Saleem Ullah presented a paper titled “Islamic Microfinance”, and Prof. Dr. Zeshan Ahmad presented a paper titled “Potential of Waqf for Poverty Alleviation – The Way Foreward for Akhuwat”.
