Lahore: 09 June: University of Central Punjab (UCP) Lahore has announced that IT Support Department of UCP, organized a gaming competition from the 17th May to 19th May, 2012 which received an overwhelming response from all the faculties of the university. A record number of 700+ students participated and competed against each other. During the three day event, students participated in a variety of gaming competitions in an effort to make their way to the top. The organizing team was headed by Prof. Armghan Shahid and Prof. Imran Arshad who led a team of twenty student volunteers.
The Pro Rector, Dr. Muhammad Zafarullah inaugurated the competition, and Dr. Iftikhar Hussain Shah, Head of Computer Science Department at Forman Christian College graced the prize distribution ceremony of the event as the chief guest.
In his address, Dr. Zafarullah emphasized the role of IT industry in economic growth of any country. Citing specifically the case of gaming industry, he compared Pakistan with its neighboring countries and urged students to help Pakistan increase its share of this billion dollar industry. Dr. Iftikhar continued thoughts of the honorable Pro-Rector and discussed importance of programming related courses in computer science curricula.
The ceremony concluded with prize distribution.
