LAHORE: March 30:DOZENS of schoolteachers, protesting on Thursday, demanded the Punjab government address their genuine concerns on priority basis including raise in salaries keeping in view of ever rising inflation.
They gathered at a hunger strike camp organised by the Punjab Teachers Union (PTU) and Joint Action Committee (JAC) Asataza Punjab in front of the Punjab Assembly.
PTU and JAC office-bearers, including Syed Sajjad Kazmi, Rana Liaqat Ali, Mian Arshad, Aslam Ghuman and others, criticised the Punjab government for what they termed depriving schoolteachers of their rights.
They demanded the government award BS-16 to teachers of primary and elementary schools, BS-17 to SST and BS-18 to SS teachers besides introduction of timescale in promotion. They also demanded revision of pay scale by merging 65 percent ad-hoc relief and increase into medical allowance and house rent.
The protesting teachers also demanded the government continue Urdu medium schools along with English medium schools and fulfil all vacant posts of teachers.The news.
