Teachers press for demands

LAHORE:July 17:DOZENS of schoolteachers on Monday staged a protest demonstration at the Education Complex, Hall Road, against the non-fulfillment of their demands, including incentive of 2010 and conveyance allowance of summer camp 2011.
A protest camp was organised by Punjab Teachers Union (PTU), Lahore district.
Addressing the protesters, Punjab Teachers Union office-bearers, including Mian Muhammad Arshad, Malik Saeed and Rana Liaquat Ali, said the teacher community would not tolerate such ruthless acts of the government against their rights.
They said that ads had been given in the print media for new appointments but in-service promotion was delayed.
They complained that those educators who were appointed in 2012 had yet to get their salaries.
The Punjab Teachers Union office-bearers demanded of the government to release funds to pay them their incentive of 2010 and conveyance allowance of summer camp 2011 at the earliest.
The education EDO visited the camp of the protesting teachers and invited them for dialogue.
Punjab Teachers Union’s Central President Syed Sajjad Akbar Kazmi and others held a meeting with the Education District Officer and later called off the strike after the latter assured them that their grievances would be addressed within one week.The news.
