LAHORE:12 August: The Syndicate of King Edward Medical University, Lahore, in its meeting on Saturday approved the budget estimates amounting to Rs1,162.509 million (Rs1.16 billion) for fiscal year 2012-13.
The budget envisages employees-related expenses to the tune of Rs704.187 million, operating expenses Rs92.680 million, scholarships and stipend Rs60.6million, research and surveys Rs30 million, physical assets Rs36.510 million, employees retirement benefits Rs21.625 million, repair and maintenance Rs42.170 million and development budget Rs74.737 million.
The university has increased need-based scholarships from 40 to 113, along with enhancing the amount of each scholarship from Rs2,000 to Rs6,000 per month.
The syndicate has approved the teaching posts for the departments of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, cardiac surgery, child psychiatry, neurology and pathology. In addition, posts for the offices of controller of examination, library and quality enhancement cell were also approved.
The syndicate has also approved the test rates of advanced lab and diagnostic centre, KEMU, with 10 per cent rebate for doctors, government/university employees, medical students and 15 per cent for pensioner and senior citizens.
The syndicate also approved the Version-III of the revised handbook of regulations related to admission, registration and examination for PhD and MPhil leading to PhD programme.Dawn.
