Private schools defy summer vacation orders

Rawalpindi:June 05:Hundreds of students, studying in private educational institutions, are experiencing great hardships in going to their schools in the severely hot weather, as the concerned managements have not given them summer vacation.
Though the Punjab government has given summer holidays in educational institutions with effect from June 1, but according to students studying in private academic institutions, their summer vacation would start after June 30.

Not only students even their parents are worried and perturbed over the decision of the managements of private institutions with regard to late summer vacation.

Parents said the temperature has gone up to 46 degrees centigrade and students have to bear scorching heat while attending their schools, affecting their health badly.

According to parents, many students have fallen prey to heatstroke during school hours and while returning to their homes. On return to their homes, students find no electricity due to loadshedding that further adds to their miseries.

A good number of parents have even approached the managements of top private institutions demanding vacation for students. However principals and senior teachers, instead of giving them a patient hearing, said that studies is important for students instead of holidays.
Parents said that education has been made provincial subject but the concerned governments have not set up any department or authority to look into the affairs of private academic institutions to keep a check on them.
The administrator of a private school and college, when asked, said that summer vacation would start on June 30 and till then summer classes would be held from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.Daily Times.
