Lahore: 21 July: The all Pakistan mega event, “Nerds of Art and Gurus of Science 2011 (NAGS’ 11)”, kicked off at the Physics department. As many as 300 students from 27 educational institutions of Pakistan are participating in the three day mega event which is organized by the Department of Physics in candid coordination with Photography Club, Department of Fine Arts, Computer Sciences Department and IEEE Electronics Wing of the University. GCU Physics Department Chairperson Prof. Dr. Hassan A. Shah inaugurated the activities by lighting up NAGS candles at the university Bokhari Auditorium. The heads of various departments and participating teams’ caption were also present on the occasion.
The mega competitions of Robotic Race, Circuit Designing, Technical Quiz, Speed Writing, Science Project Exhibition, Best Proposed Scientific Solution, Best Scientific Idea, Photography, Essay Writing, Short Film Contest, Sketching, Painting, Sculpture, Dress Designing, Short Story Writing, Poetry, Recycling, Dubbing, E-gamming and Flash War are the part of mega event that has basked the GC University Lahore into co-curricular and scientific activities.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Hassan A. Shah said that both science and arts equally important for the success of mankind. He said that “art is for those who learn; poetry for those who know.” He said that the two genre of education (i.e. science and arts) gather can create an exceptional difference. He said that the objective behind NAGS is to bring the students of Arts and Science from all over Pakistan under one roof and become a podium for these intellectuals to come up and express their innovative ideas, share knowledge and reveal their creativity.
The most colorful of NAGS on Wednesday was ASTROFEST; moon and planet sighting festival through biggest digital telescope. The festival was held at the historical Bokhari Lawns in collaboration Khwarizmi Science Academy. Noted astronomer Umair Asim was also present on the occasion who explained the students about various stars and planets.
Earlier, in the day, the competitions of Circuit Designing, E-gaming, Painting and Photo Essay were held at GCU in which a large number students took part.
A drama and mime festival is also part of the three-day event which will be held today (Thursday) at Bokahri Auditorium. The names of the winners of the competition would be announced at the Prize Distribution Ceremony on Friday evening that would be chaired by GCU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ikramul Haq.
