Lahore: 27 Oct: Lahore University of Management Sciences has announced that Dr. Sohail Qureshi, presently Professor of Biology at the LUMS School of Science and Engineering (SSE), has been appointed as the next Dean of SSE. He will assume responsibility from November 1, 2011. Dr. Qureshi did his PhD in Molecular Biology in 1989 from the University of Maine-Orono, USA and subsequently carried out his postdoctoral research work at Glasgow University, Imperial Cancer Research Fund, London and Cambridge University.
Dr. Qureshi has worked at the Aga Khan University for seven years and has also taught at the Department of Neurology, University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA. In 2001, he joined PanVera/Invitrogen Corporation as a Senior Research Scientist of Molecular Biology and Assay Development. Dr. Qureshi has over 20 years of Post-PhD research, teaching and corporate experience. He has published a number of seminal papers in top-tier scientific journals. His research interests include gene regulation in hyperthermophilic archaea, Hepatitis-C & E, Cancer, Epigenomics and Neuroscience.
Dr. Qureshi’s predecessor, Dr. Shahab Baqai has worked passionately to turn the newly established SSE into a centre of research, innovation and academic distinction. Dr. Baqai will continue his research and teaching career at SSE, LUMS.
The LUMS community welcomes Dr. Qureshi as the new Dean and is sure that he will lead the school to new heights of excellence in the future.
