LUMS Graduates Scoop Up Offers from Top-tier Companies

Lahore: 07 July: Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) Lahore has announced that Only a fortnight after the convocation of the Class of 2012, LUMS proudly shares exciting news of our graduates acquiring their jobs and taking the first step onto the path of success.
Our very first batch of Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE) has received an overwhelming response from the job market. A number of our Computer Science graduates have received job offers from Microsoft, USA before graduation and will join Microsoft in Fall 2012. One of our electrical engineering undergraduates is working with National Instruments at an international assignment. He was selected for the position against 1200 contending applicants from across Pakistan.
The number of our students going abroad to pursue further studies increases every year. The graduates from SBASSE have been accepted into distinguished Master’s and Doctoral programmes in leading universities. Twenty students from the School will be joining graduate programmes in renowned universities in Europe and USA; fifteen of them were accepted in PhD programmes, four in MS/MRes programmes and one student was admitted to a D. Phil programme. The universities include University of Massachusetts, Carnegie Mellon University, University of South Carolina, Michigan State University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Max-Planck Institute, Grand Ecole at EDHEC, University of North Carolina, University of Arizona, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), Rochester Institute of Technology, University College Cork, University of Connecticut, University of Texas at Arlington, New York University, Harvard University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Chicago, Duke University, New York University, Vermont University, Dartmouth University, Uppsala University, University of London and Oxford University.
The other two Schools at LUMS - Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB) and Mushtaq Ahmed Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences (MGSHSS) - are doing equally great with many of the students already working for companies like Reckitt Benckiser, AkzoNobel Pakistan, Standard Chartered Bank, Unilever, Pakistan Research Council, Rocket Internet and many other multinational corporations and financial institutions. Students from the LUMS Bachelor’s stream have been placed with salaries as high as PKR 88, 000 per month. Out of the total number of offers made, 23% are at PKR 88,000 while 78% of the offers made to these students are above PKR 50,000 per month.
We are pleased to share that 50% of the students going for further studies have received scholarships. A quarter of the students receiving scholarships have received full funding. The universities they will be joining include, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, LSE (London) or Glasgow, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, University of Pennsylvania, Dartmouth, University of Oxford, School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of Warwick, King's college London, Purdue University, USA and many other Ivy league Universities.
The MBA Class of 2012 has made us proud with a host of offers already lined up from companies like IFFCO, Dubai; Dunia Finance LLC, Dubai; Philip Morris Pakistan; Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) Pakistan; Standard Chartered Bank; Unilever; Telenor; Servis Industries; Engro Corporation; Shell; Reckitt Benckiser Pakistan; Pakistan Tobacco Company; Fatima Group and Intech Process Automation. The packages offered to our graduates are equally exciting averaging to a monthly salary of PKR 100,000 where 40% of the offers made are above the average salary. However, the recruitment process for the MBA batch is still underway with companies, including Nestle Pakistan, PepsiCo International, Haleeb Foods, Mobilink, Chevron Pakistan, Zoom Petroleum, National Foods and Aisha Steel Mills.
The MBA Placement Office has brought McKinsey & Company onboard to open its doors to LUMS for the internship programme leading to recruitment from this year onwards. One MBA 2012 graduate has been offered a position at L’Oreal Pakistan while the recruitment process continues for other graduates with the L’Oreal team in Dubai for a lateral role in L’Oreal, Middle East.
An MBA 2012 graduate, Sharjeel Ejaz Minhas has accepted an internship offer from Credit Suisse Bank, Hong Kong; one of the top ranked banks of the world. The contenders for this position included graduates from Harvard, Stanford, University of Chicago, Columbia University etc. Sharjeel competed with the world’s top talent to secure this offer. His placement has opened LUMS’ recruitment channel to one of the world’s financial giants.
