KFC 8th Teachers Convention

LAHORE:20 November: KFC Pakistan organised its 8th Annual Teachers Convention in a local hotel on Saturday, where more than 50 luminaries from various educational institutions were honoured with great ardor.
The chief guest of the event was Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairperson Dr Javaid Laghari.
Apart from teachers attending the event, renowned singer Abrarul Haq, renowned cartoonist Javaid Iqbal, Forman Christian College (FCC) executive vice rector and St Anthony High School Principal Dr Don Maxwell Shanti were also present on the occasion.
At least 800 nominations were received from across the country for the awards that were to be distributed among the teacher’s community. The awards given to the teachers were distributed according to six different categories; Lifetime Achievement Award, Community Service Award, Lifetime Excellence Award, Leadership Excellence Award, Service Excellence Award, Outstanding Achievement Award and Special Service Award.
The winners were selected from hundreds of nominations by an esteemed panel of educationists, including Oriya Maqbool Jan, Dr Susrow J Dubash and Mariya Afzal.
Renowned singer Abrarul Haq was also awarded with the Community Service Award. Addressing the event, Dr Laghari said that teachers in schools should inculcate within the students a spirit of patriotism and love for their country so that even if they go abroad for higher studies at some later point in life, they would always choose to come back to their homeland and serve their own people.
He also urged the government to increase the education budget in order to put the country on the track of progress and prosperity similar to other nations who had prospered after allotting a larger amount of the GDP for the education sector.Daily Times.
