LAHORE:DOZENS of activists of the Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) blocked Canal Road and strongly protested against the government for excessive power outages on Thursday.
The demo was held outside Punjab University (PU) New Campus, Canal Road, in the evening which caused traffic mess on many adjacent roads for quite some time. The protesting students chanted slogans and strongly criticised the government as well as PU administration for their failure to control ever increasing loadshedding. The IJT office-bearers, including Rai Haq Nawaz and Atif, said Punjab University was facing worst kind of loadshedding owing to which thousands of students, especially boarding students, were suffering. They said the rulers and varsity administration had kept themselves aloof from genuine concerns of the students which was very unfortunate. They warned that if the government did not take any measures to solve the said problem then the students would block all the roads of the provincial metropolis. The protesting students further said the PU administration had ignored the legitimate demand of the students for varsity’s own power plant. They said the top administrators of the varsity were enjoying uninterrupted power supply owing to generators while the students and teachers were suffering. The news.
