Lahore:December 11:PUNJAB Governor Sardar Latif Khosa has said that education is the most important factor which can transform the country’s future as it boosts the economy, broadens outlook of the society and offers brighter future for the youth.
He said the universities should prepare the future leadership, salvage the socio-cultural layout, rebuild the economy and evolve a mechanism to groom students to compete in the global community.
He stated this in his address on the 6th convocation of a private university here on Saturday. The governor said the future of education lied in modern technology and we had to move forward to make progress and to make Pakistan economically strong. He said universities had to create an environment which enabled the students to develop academic, moral, physical, professional aptitude. He said if Pakistan wanted to compete successfully in the world market, its citizens needed to have a global vision, sophisticated intercultural skills and knowledge of language. He said political literacy and economic awareness must be acquired in order to establish a self-reliant judicial system of good governance, which encouraged equality of all citizens. Highlighting the importance of education, Khosa said as the country was facing multiple challenges, like as terrorism and extremism, students should equip themselves with modern knowledge to counter every challenge. He said it was education which could bridge the gap between the haves and have-nots.
The governor asked the provincial government to allocate more funds for higher education. He said women should be given equal share in all walks of life so that the society could move on modern lines. He said the university had made its mark not only in Pakistan but in the region too. With presence of students from Saarc countries, he said, the university was offering its academic expertise to neighbouring countries also.
Vice-Chancellor Sartaj Aziz, in his address, presented an annual report on BNU’s achievements. He also congratulated the graduating students and their parents on the occasion.
Chairperson Board of Governors of the university, Nasreen Mahmood Kasuri, Vice-Chancellor Sartaj Aziz, members of the Board of Governors and students were also present.The news.
