FAISALABAD:September 28: The Government College University Faisalabad is strengthening its distance learning programme by offering more courses and getting the service of trained and qualified teachers, said GCUF VC Prof Dr Zakir Hussain here on Thursday.
The university opens admissions under distance learning education programme to the various courses of graduate, postgraduate and MPhil. The programme including BCom (two years), BBA (four years), BBA banking and finance (four years), MBA banking and finance (two years), MBA (three and half years), MPA (two years), MSc (Mathematics), MSc(Economics), MCom , MA (English), MA Islamic Studies, BEd/BEd Special Education (one year), MEd/BEd Special Education (one year), MPhil(two years) and MPhil (two years). The last date to apply is October 10. The details will be available at the Directorate of Distance Learning Education and Information Centre. The VC was speaking at a meeting with Distance Learning Education Director Dr Naeem Mohsin. The meeting was held to discuss the scope and improving the distance learning education to narrow down illiteracy from the country. Deans and officials including Dr Muhammad Shahbaz Arif, Dr Noureen Aziz, Sheikh Muhammad Akram, Dr Nighat Bhatti, Dr Muhammad Sabar, Dr Haq Nawaz, Dr Sofia Anwar, Dr Sohail Nadeem, Dr Farhat Abbas, Dr Hadayat Rasool, Sheikh Anwar, Tahmina Afzal and other faculty members were present. The VC said through the open and distance learning hundreds of people who were outside the formal educational system will be able to have access to opportunities to undertake organised educational activities which would improve the quality of their lives. He said the proposed plan of distance learning gave a roadmap for upgrading literacy at all levels in the country with an aim to pave a way for the development of the country. He said a comprehensive plan had been mapped out to polish the distance learning programme in a bid to increase literacy rate. The programme will also offer opportunity to the Pakistani living abroad to get education from here. The VC pointed out that the literacy rate in the country was very low compared to developed world and distance learning could play a vital role in this regard.The news.
