Lahore: 10 July: Government College University (GCU) Lahore has announced that A group of 40 top positions-holders of Matriculation, Intermediate and Graduation from Pakistan who are on a visit to Europe on the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, led by GCU Vice Chancellor Prof. (Meritorious) Dr. Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman and other officials, started visits programs of Scotland Universities. They visited Glasgow University and Strathclyde University. They were welcomed by Dr Ian Thomson, and Ms Gaile. The student delegate was briefed that the University of Glasgow was established in 1451 and is ranked among top 100 universities of the world. The University has got a multi-cultural representation of students from over 150 countries having 10 partnerships with Pakistan. The compact campus not only speaks of remarkable feats of architecture but also houses 20,000 students and has produced six noble prize winners- Adam Smith, James Watt, Joseph Black, Lord Kelvin, William Rankine and Join Baird. During the visit of Glasgow, the delegation also visited Strathclyde University, the third largest University of Scotland and ranked 77th in the world.
Later, the delegation went to City Council Glasgow on the invitation of six Pakistani councilors who warmly welcomed them. They were told about the political representation of the localities. Initially there were 79 localities but at present 73 are there, one representative from each has one seat in the City Council.
The top position holder students also paid educational visits to leading academic institutions including Cambridge, Oxford, London School of Economics, Manchestor Metropolitan University and Leads University in UK. The delegation was also felicitated at the office of the High Commission in UK. Mr. Wajid Shamsul Hasan, High Commissioner for Pakistan in UK, gave away souvenir gifts to top position holder students The High Commissioner was impressed by students’ aspiration to serve Pakistan in the fields of medicine, engineering, accounting, artificial intelligence and literature.
After their visit to the United Kingdom, the student delegation would be visiting Universities in Germany and Turkey.
