Fair attracts book lovers

Lahore:February 05: A LARGE number of people on Saturday thronged the 26th Lahore International Book Fair (LIBF) 2012 at Expo Centre, Johar Town, on the second day of the event.

The book fair organised by the Lahore International Book Fair Trust was kicked off on Friday and since then it had been attracting hundreds of people from different walks of life.

Besides dozens of local publishers, a number of companies from foreign countries, including India, USA, UK, Singapore, Turkey and Germany, are participating in the book fair. The event is offering a variety of books and other educational material to visitors with special discount offers by different participating companies.

As Saturday was declared a holiday by the government in the wake of Eid Milad-un-Nabi, which will be celebrated on Sunday (today), a number of families visited the fair and explored the world of books. A number of young students were also seen visiting the fair with their parents.

A visitor, Tanvir, said he had especially come to the book fair with his children to encourage them and to develop the habit of book reading among them. He said it was essentially important for students to read other books besides textbooks.

Saleem Akhtar, another visitor, said the book fair was a great effort to revive the dying habit of book reading among people. He said such events certainly played a key role in promoting the habit of book reading.

Meanwhile, the Punjab Textbook Board (PTB), which is one of the participating companies, arranged a certificate distribution ceremony for winners of art and calligraphy competitions at the book fair. A large number of students participated in these competitions and exhibited their talent.

Punjab Textbook Board Chairman Izhar Ahmed Sheikh addressed the ceremony and said the board was playing an important role in provision of affordable and quality textbooks besides promoting extracurricular activities among students through such competitions.The news.
