Access to education key to national development

Rawalpindi:July 16:Better-educated and skilled human capital is an essential precursor for the country’s economic growth and poverty reduction, stated President SZABIST Dr Saqib Rizavi in an interview with.Access to education offers the single most important opportunity of upward mobility to the country’s youth. At SZABIST, we believe that education is the most reliable means of achieving social integration, ethnic harmony, and political stability. These factors enable evolution of a prosperous, peaceful, and progressive society. According to Dr Rizavi, It needs no emphasis that with education the locus of power shifts from the entrenched vested interests to the enlightened individuals, which allows the economy, society, and the polity to diversify and modernize.
The president SZABIST underscored that middle and low-income countries urgently need to build their own knowledge bases. “The challenge is greatest for the poorest states, which are striving to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs.” In the context of Pakistan, it further means that the dynamics of higher education should be such that they should lead to a peaceful, prosperous, and progressive country while providing context-relevant education with marketable skills, he added.
Dr Rizavi emphasized that to achieve these objectives, universities should pursue an anticipatory approach towards trends in global academics and developments in research with a focus on the creation of knowledge leaders enabling them to fit seamlessly into the business and industry once they graduate. We are proud that at SZABIST we are producing highly educated and skilled youth that are playing a critical role in Pakistan’s progress.
In Dr Rizavi’s opinion, education is a strategic priority to power economic progress and engineer a forward-looking tolerant and inclusive society. Education is an ‘expectation builder’ and a ‘force multiplier’.
He said that promoting the youth in higher education means building their innate capacities to meet the present and future demands of the society and the economy. It further means acquiring practical skills to solve emergent as well as unforeseen challenges being faced by the society.
SZABIST’s vision is to be a competitive institution meeting the intellectual and professional demands of the future. The plan is to consolidate our success and build on it by diversifying curriculum, strengthening faculty, indigenising the generation of knowledge, intensifying our research agenda and distinguishing SZABIST as a symbol of excellence and professionalism.
