Students protest against private college

LAHORE:01December:Dozens of students from a private college staged a sit-in outside Lahore Press Club on Thursday against the college's administration for not awarding them degrees. The students also burnt tyres to express their anger over the injustice. They vowed not to leave the place till their issue was resolved. The students alleged that they had completed their degrees but the institute was not awarding them degrees despite passage of two years. An official of Higher Education Department (HED), Punjab, seeking anonymity, said the college management had started offering different courses a few years back without formal approval from authorities concerned. He said the department had taken notice of the issue and was in contact with the institute's management. Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) Chairperson Prof Dr Muhammad Nizamuddin said the college management was asked to provide details vis-à-vis approval of its several programmes so that the issue be resolved and the future of the students be protected.
