Lahore:31 January:The law enforcement agencies staged a security drill on Saturday morning at Government College University (GCU) to improve preparedness for any kind of security situation, says a press release.
Besides City Division Police, quick response force, bomb disposal squad and Rescue 1122, the security guards of the university also participated in the drill and countered mock terrorist attack on the university.
Later, SP City Haroon Joiya addressing the boarding students of the university, said it was a routine security drill and it didn't mean there was any specific or immediate threat. He said exercise was just aimed at providing optimum security to the future of the country. He called on the students not to fear evil saying they were on a sacred mission to get education for their enlightenment and prosperity of the country.
The SP City requested the students to always remain vigilant. He shared all the emergencies with the students asking them to report any suspicious activity immediately to the police. He also briefed them about the Standard Operating Procedures for any emergency or security situation.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof Hassan Shah lauded special efforts of police for providing security to GCU. He said chief minister also held a detailed meeting with vice-chancellors to ensure safety and bright future of the youth of the country, while Higher Education Department was providing extensive support to the students.
