Punjab University VC To Purge Trouble Makers From Campus

Lahore:Sep 19:Punjab University Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran here on Tuesday has expressed the hope to get rid of illegal residents at varsity hostels with the help of law enforcing agencies soon.
PU VC Dr Mujahid Kamran sated this while briefing the media personnels at varsity campus in the backdrop of alleged Al Qaeda operative arrest from the varsitys hostel couple of days ago.
He stated a scrutiny process had begun for verification of illegal residents at the 26 hostels of the varsity. The scrutiny would be completed soon, he added.
He hoped varsity would resolve the issue of illegal residents at varsity hostels on its own. If needed then may contact law enforcing agencies, headed.
He said in past varsity administration at times sought police support to deal illegal residents but efforts foiled due to political pressures over police and the prevailing divide among faculty members of the varsity, he underscored.
Referring to a meeting with the Secretary Higher Education Punjab, PU VC Dr Kamran stated that both had agreed to maintain discipline at the academic institution. Though the varsity possessed tolerance for various ideologies and student bodies but no one would be allowed to undermine law and moral values, he added.
During the briefing a documentary was also showcased. The documentary video showed the Jihadi literature at the residence of alleged Al Qaeda operative. According to the documentary the alleged Al Qaeda operative remained in contact with several members of Isalmi Jamiat e Tuleba (IJT) too while the IJT had denied any such connections.
The varsity is considering placing CCTV cameras at hostels to ensure that only legal and registered students are living there.
He said only one Al Qaeda operative has been arrested from the varsity premises. He said that with the governments collaboration it is not difficult to eliminate illegal residents or miscreants from the campus.Frontier Post
