Punjab University to start MBBS, BDS this year

LAHORE:August 19: Punjab University’s Academic Council has approved bachelor’s level medical programmes ie MBBS and BDS along with curriculum as taught in King Edward Medical University (KEMU) from the academic session 2017. The meeting was chaired by Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir in which PU Registrar Dr Muhammad Khalid Khan, heads of academic departments and professors participated. A PU official said the university had already applied to Pakistan Medical and Dental Council and the programmes would be offered only after approval. The medical programmes (HEC Level-6, 7 & 8 and PMDC level-1, 2, 3 & 4) would be offered under PU’s Faculty of Health Sciences, formerly known as Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. Addressing the meeting, Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir said that PU administration was aiming at establishing state-of-the-art medical college and hospital and it would provide the best health services to the people. He said PU administration was making efforts to revise curriculum of all academic programmes on modern lines. The meeting also approved establishment of Nursing College. The meeting approved several agenda items regarding recommendations of board of studies of all faculties regarding revision of curriculum and other related matters. Meanwhile, the PU Examinations Department has declared the results of BSc Medical Laboratory Technology Course (4-year programme) Part-I, Annual Examination 2016 and BS Applied Geology Fourth Professional Second Annual 2016 and Annual Examination 2017. The details are available at PU website www.pu.edu.pk. expats’ complaints: Overseas Pakistanis Commission (OPC) Punjab Vice-Chairperson Shaheen Khalid Butt and Commissioner Afzaal Bhatti have instructed the members of the Lahore District Overseas Pakistanis (DOPC) to expedite the mechanism of resolution of complaints relating to expatriate Pakistanis and proceedings regarding redress of complaints be properly and regularly uploaded on complaints web portal of the OPC. A meeting of the DOPC, Lahore, was held under the Shaheen Khalid and Afzaal Bhatti. CCPO Amin Wains, OPC DG Javed Iqbal Bukhari, Additional DG Police Matters Agha Muhammad Yousaf, Deputy Commissioner Sumair Ahmad Syed and OPC Public Facilitation Committee Chairman Sajjid Ch were also present. During the meeting, the performance of the DOPC, Lahore and data of pending complaints also came under discussion.
