Probe into irregularity in laptop distribution

Rawalpindi:June 21:The Punjab government has constituted a team to probe into the distribution mechanism and find out whether any kind of irregularity was conducted during distribution of laptops among the university students in the Rawalpindi district.

The committee comprising Prof. Shafaq Dar, Prof. Muhammad Saleem and Lecturer Saleem Bhatti would get details about distribution mechanism from various universities including Arid University Rawalpindi, Government Post Graduate College (Sixth Road) and Rawalpindi Medical College.

According to an official circular issued by the Punjab government, the ineligible students who were wrongly given laptops under the Prime Minister Scheme would have to return them to their universities.

The media reports have underlined the fact that number of laptops were given to ineligible students who were either already working, employees of the university or had previously received a laptop under the scheme.  As per the HEC policy, any person who is employed at any public or private sector organisation cannot avail this facility.

The official of the education department said the monitoring over the distribution of laptops among the students is a permanent feature so if a committee has been constituted then it does not mean that irregularities have been done in this respect.The news.
