No major changes in textbooks: minister

LAHORE:22 august: Punjab Minister for School Education Rana Mashhood Ahmad has said that no major changes have been introduced to textbooks of class 1 to 10, published by the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook BOARD (PCTB) and dispelled the impression that certain changes were made in chapters on Islam, Pakistan and the Pakistan Army. Addressing a press conference at the PCTB office, he said no one could claim to be a Muslim without having a firm belief in the Holy Prophet (PBUH). He said chapters on Hazrat Ai (RA), Hazrat Khadija (RA), Eid Milad-un-Nabi and sanctity of mosques were still part of the syllabus. Only that material has been rearranged which was repetitive, instead more chapters have been added to the syllabus, he claimed. He said a committee had also been constituted under the chairmanship of Schools Education Secretary Dr Allah Bakhsh Malik who will prepare a report on rumours of deletion of certain contents from the textbooks. Earlier, different student organisations including Islami Tehreek e Talaba (ITT) and Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT) had protested against the alleged changes in textbooks. Health facilities: Provincial Minister for Human Rights and Minorities Affairs Khalil Tahir Sandhu has said that provision of basic health facilities to people is top priority of the Punjab government. He said the Punjab government wanted to work together with the KP government to curb dengue, which was a good step. He expressed these views in a meeting with minorities MPA Kanji Ram and parliamentary secretary Tariq Masih Gill. The minister said the Punjab government had played proactive role in eradicating dengue in Punjab and now as big brother, the Punjab government wanted to work together with the KP government against dengue. He said eight ambulances of Punjab Emergency Rescue Service 1122 along with necessary medical equipment and medicines have been sent to Peshawar. The minister said that team of Health Department Punjab is also present in Peshawar on the directions of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. He said the KP government should work together for the betterment of common people. MS replaced: The Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education (SHC&ME) Department has transferred Dr Noman Matloob, Medical Superintendent, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lahore, on administrative grounds and directed him to report to the SHC&ME Department. As per the notification, Dr Sohail Arshad Rana, APMO, AMS (Admn), Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lahore, is entrusted additional charge of the post of medical superintendent till the arrival of regular incumbent.The news.
