LCWU to introduce ‘TED Talks’ at its campus

LAHORE:12 July: The Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) has decided to introduce 'Technology, Entertainment, Design (TED) Talks' to shine a spotlight on students' talent. "The TED Talks share ideas from a broad spectrum from science to business to global issues in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independent TEDx events help share ideas in communities around the world," a statement quoted LCWU Vice Chancellor as saying. "We have a renovated auditorium as well two allied seminars hall. These venues are much compatible for such debates. The LCWU also has the facility of video link and can be connected worldwide to be the part of TED Talk series," she added. Dr Faleeha Kazmi, in-charge debating section at the LCWU said, "The LCWU already is collaborating with numerous international institutions. The British Council Pakistan and the LCWU are implementing an 'Active Citizens Programme' as a mandatory course for undergraduate female students, she added. Programme completion certificates have been awarded to the students, who have completed their social action projects as per the mutually agreed criteria. She said that the Lahore College for Women University under the auspices of Directorate of Faculty Development and Internationalisation had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the British Council Pakistan five years ago to launch the British Council Active Citizens Programme (ACP) at the LCWU as a pilot project in a public sector university. TED is a media organisation, which posts talks online for free distribution, under the slogan "ideas worth spreading".
