Lahore College for Women University institute named after Dr Ruth Pfau

LAHORE:26 august: Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) on Friday renamed one of its institutes after German-born Catholic nun Ruth Pfau who devoted her life to eradication of leprosy in Pakistan. “On the special instructions of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Uzma Qureshi, the university’s Women Institute of Leadership and Learning (WILL) has been named after late Dr Ruth Pfau,” said a spokesman for LCWU. Earlier, addressing a condolence reference, Dr Uzma Qureshi paid glowing tributes to Dr Ruth Pfau, saying that Dr Pfau served the humanity throughout her life. As a result of her tireless efforts, the World Health Organisation declared Pakistan in 1996 one of the first countries in Asia to be free of leprosy, she added. The VC also announced Doctor Ruth Pfau Gold Medal which would be awarded in next convocation to a student having services in social welfare. The VC also suggested setting up a peace chair in the name of late Dr Ruth Pfau.
