Be the change : PU hosts its first-ever TEDx talk

LAHORE:12 November:Allama Iqbal Open University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui said that altering beliefs, actions and attitudes would bring sustainable change at all levels. He was delivering a lecture in Technology, Entertainment, Design conference (TEDx) which was organised for the first time at Punjab University by the Department of English Language and Literature on Saturday. PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir, Department of English Language & Literature Chairperson Dr Amra Raza, assistant professor Shahzeb Khan, Dr Tayyab Husnain, Dr Ahmed Bilal, Sara Zahid, Shaheer Niazi and other guest speakers as well as 100 registered participants were present on the occasion. The theme of the event was past, present and future of human centricity. Delivering his lecture on “Leadership, Inspiration and Change”, Professor Dr Shahid Siddiqui said that change faced resistance and problems. “However, we need to empower people” He said change was incremental and there must be good relations amongst employers and employees and a positive working environment in organisations. He said a good leader focused on organisation and an individual’s development. LCWU to introduce TED Talks on campus He said that the use of force in organisations to ensure things are done is an incorrect approach. “Rather, there must be a participatory approach in organisations,” he added. He said AIOU had taken several initiatives to encourage marginalised segments and areas of the country to pursue education. Talking to the media, PU VC Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir said the administration was extending its complete support to organise more such events at the varsity. He expressed hope that such events would help bring a positive change in society. Dr Amra Raza said that we must not “wait for ‘tomorrow” and “change ‘today”. Talking to the media, Shahzeb Khan said Punjab University was hosting its very first TEDx event. He said this was another breakthrough on its way to accomplishment by the utmost efforts of the students of English literature. He said TEDx was an annual event which brings together leading thinkers and those who make-do to share ideas that matter in any discipline whether its technology, entertainment, design, science, humanities, business or development etc.Published in The Express Tribune, November 12th, 2017.
