University of Education held a seminar on “Engaging Youth

LAHORE: 30 March: A national level organisation, working on youth development, in collaboration with University of Education (UE), Lahore and Oxfam Pakistan held a seminar on “Engaging Youth for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”. The seminar was organised to provide orientation and awareness to youths about the SDGs specifically in the context of Pakistan. The topics that were brought into discussion were mainly three SDGs, which were SDG-5 (Gender Equality), SDG-8 (Sustained, Inclusive and Sustainable Growth) and SDG-16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) respectively.

Punjab Teachers Union criticised government for engaging schoolteachers

Lahore: 30 March: Punjab Teachers Union (PTU) has criticised the government for engaging schoolteachers in non-academic activities. In a press release, the PTU office-bearers, including Ch Muhammad Sarfraz, Rana Liaqat Ali and Jam Sadiq, said the schoolteachers were engaged in duties relating to eletions in January, and now they were also being engaged in such duties once again from April by ensuring their presence at the display centres to be set up in this regard. The PTU leaders demanded the chief minister spare schoolteachers from such duties.The news.

Pakistan Day history enlightened among students

Rawalpindi:27 MARCH: All campuses of Sadeeqa’s Learning System (SLS) Montessori & High School marked Pakistan Resolution Day, says a press release. The day was celebrated through a series of activities and small events which were held throughout the week to enlighten the students about the history of this day. Montessori Section, Gulraiz Campus held a special morning assembly to celebrate this day in which students dressed up in green and white participated with great zeal and zest.

Punjab University and NEU signed an MoU for doctoral programme

LAHORE:27 MARCH: Punjab University and China’s Northeastern University (NEU) on Monday signed an MoU for launching joint doctoral programme. According to the MoU, the joint training programme would be launched in PhD in History and both parties would jointly recruit the qualified postgraduate students from China. In the four-year programme, the students would spend first year in Punjab University to complete the basic course and they would spend next three years to do research in NEU, which is ranked among top 40 universities out of 500 universities in China.

NTDC is providing compensation to Punjab University for land

LAHORE:27 MARCH: A request by the National Transmission & Dispatch Company (NTDC) to Punjab University to acquire the university’s 80 kanals of land for construction of a 220KV grid station has caused serious concern among the faculty members. The PU administration has decided to place the NTDC request before the university’s Syndicate, the highest statutory body, for final approval. Some faculty members took to social media on Monday by posting copies of the agenda of the upcoming PU Syndicate’s meeting, scheduled for March 28, and expressed their concerns.

University of Veterinary Sciences ceremony of International workshop

LAHORE:21 March: The Department of Clinical Medicine & Surgery of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Tuesday arranged concluding ceremony of “two-day International workshop on Collective Action for Knowledge Economy Using Technology (CAKE-TECH).” The workshop was funded by Punjab Agriculture Research Board (PARB) under Civic Engagement Programme.

Beaconhouse National University got distinction to Cannes film festival

LAHORE:21 March: Students from Beaconhouse National University (BNU) got distinction by making their way to Cannes film festival 2018. Their short film “Jahaan Ara” has been nominated for the festival. Reportedly, the film is about forced marriages in the society. Students, including Ali Zaib Raes and Nasir Ali Mazari, have written the script and directed the film respectively. Renowned Producer Syed Urooj Samdani congratulated them on nomination. It is pertinent to mention that Ali Zaib had earlier represented Pakistan in many film festivals in USA, UK, Italy and Japan.The news.

Mental Health Week celebrations began at Govt College University

LAHORE:21 March: In order to promote cultural and religious harmony in the society, Mental Health Week celebrations began on Tuesday at the Government College University (GCU) under the theme “Psychology of Religion and Culture.” GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah chaired the inaugural session which included the Inter-Universities Poster Competition. Some 121 psychology students from different institutions took part in the poster competition and displayed posters.

international workshop for Phil/PhD scholars at Punjab University

Lahore:21 March: A six-day international workshop on research proposal development for young faculty members and MPhil/PhD scholars started at Punjab University’s Institute of Social and Cultural Studies (ISCS). Trainers from Germany, the US and Pakistan are resource persons of the workshop. Prof Dr Rubeena Zakar, Dr Khalil Ahmed, faculty members and M Phil/PhD scholars from various departments attended the workshop.

First convocation of MBBS graduates of Fatima Jinnah Medical University

LAHORE:21 March:The first convocation of the MBBS graduates of Fatima Jinnah Medical University was held in FJMU Auditorium on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Punjab Governor Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana, as chief guest of the convocation. Khawaja Muhammad Salman Rafique, Minister Specialised Health Care & Medical Education Punjab, Prof Dr Nazimuddin, Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission and Dr Nazir Ahmed, Director General Higher Education Commission Pakistan were the guests of honour.

PU and Education University of Hong Kong organise Conferences, seminars

LAHORE:20 March: Punjab University (PU) and Education University of Hong Kong Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to promote academic collaboration. According to the MoU, both the universities will launch research activities and exchange faculty members, research personnel, students and staff. Both the universities will also exchange academic and other publication and organise conferences, seminars and meetings.
