Computer Training for Prisoners

LAHORE:10 May: The COMSATS has awarded certificates to 12 prisoners on completion of four-month training in computer technology and and graphic design at the District Jail, Kot Lakhpat. Salman Farooq, Federal Ombdusman, awarded the certificates. “This is an initiative of CIIT, Lahore and Punjab police for the capacity building of prisoners during their captivity and to empower them for better-skilled life on completion of sentence,” says a press release.

Pakistani university among world's top 300 business schools

Lahore:10 May:The Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB) at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) has been ranked among the top 300 business schools of the world, by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a British ranking agency. While Harvard University in the United States topped the ranking, followed by London Business School in the United Kingdom, SDSB at LUMS ranked at 251. Pakistani universities fail to make mark in Asia’s best university ranking Being the only Pakistani university to be featured on the list, LUMS took to its official Facebook page to announce the achievement.

Declamation contest winners announced

LAHORE:10 May:The Federal Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Tuesday announced the winners of the 19th All Pakistan Inter-University Declamation Contest for Award of Allama Iqbal Shield 2017 (Punjab Region) organized by the HEC’s Regional Center. Over 120 students from 30 Universities of Punjab both public and private sector participated in the contest. The winners were awarded cash prices, shields as well as participation certificates to all the participants.

Report on brilliant schoolteachers launched

Lahore:10 May:The Pakistan Education Specialists Group (PESG) and the British Council on Tuesday launched a report “Great Teachers in Punjab: Who they are and why they teach” that profiles 20 brilliant government schoolteachers in the Punjab school system. According to a press release, the report selected teachers based on a search carried out by the delivery chain of education in the province. The profiles include that of Abdul Lateef Khan who has delivered excellent results despite being in an under-resourced school that has to work in a multi-grade classroom.

Lahore:10 May: Post Graduate Medical Institute Principal Prof. Dr. Ghiyas un Nabi Tayyab has said that children suffering from thalassaemia are a collective responsibility of our society and both government and society can provide best available medical facilities and blood transfusion without interruption to them. Testing service to recruit teachers

LAHORE:10 May:The Punjab government has decided in principle to establish Punjab Testing Service to recruit and hire best staff for the Schools Education Department. Punjab Minister for Schools Education Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan said this while presiding over a department meeting here on Tuesday. He said school education department was working to make effective strategy to provide quality education to students. Rana Mashhood emphasised to take solid steps to establish Punjab Testing Service so that quality staff could be arranged for achieving policy goals.

Rs1m donated to GCUniversity

Lahore:10 May:Dr Zahir Ahmed Siddiqi, the 83-year-old eminent poet, writer and distinguished professor of Persian language, has donated Rs1 million to the Government College University’s Endowment Fund Trust (GCU-EFT) to initiate a perpetual golden scholarship in the name of his late father, “Molvi Shafique Ahmad Siddiqi”. The scholarship would be given to a financially-challenged student of BA (Hons) Islamic Studies every year on merit.

UMT University a press conference about fake degree

LAHORE:06 May:The University of Management and Technology (UMT) held a press conference on Friday about the fake degree unearthed by the varsity during the admission process. Talking to the media persons, UMT Rector Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad gave details of how the forgery was detected. “UMT has established a fast, secure, automated and reliable system that verifies degrees, certificates, and qualifications of students as well as employees prior to making them a part of UMT community,” he said.

Punjab University would send its employees for haj and Ummra

LAHORE:06 May:Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zaffar Mueen Nasir has announced that PU would send its employees through draw for haj and Ummra to the previous practice.

According to a press release, he made the announcement in a ceremony held to distribute the copies of the Quran among the employees of Grade 1 to 5 received from Khadim-ul-Harmain Sharifain Shah Salman Bin Abdul Alziz Al Saud.

Punjab University’s project to promote tolerance among students

LAHORE:06 May:Punjab University’s Institute of Social and Cultural Studies (ISCS) has launched a comprehensive project to promote narrative of tolerance among students under the title “Let tolerance be our virtue.”

According to a press release, a seminar was held at ISCS which was attended by PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zaffar Mueen Nasir, Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences Dean Prof Dr Zakria Zakir, Associate Professor Dr Rubeena Zakir, faculty members and a large number of students.

Life of Galileo’ staged at GC University

LAHORE:May 6:Government College University’s Dramatic Club (GCUDC) presented Brecht's play “Life of Galileo” at the university's Bukhari stage here on Friday.

The performance of the students received a loud applause by the city's literati, Old Ravians, students and faculty members.

The action of the play, directed by GCUDC President Mariam Hassan Naqvi under the guidance of eminent philosopher Prof Mirza Ather Baig, follows the career of the Italian philosopher Galileo Galilei who is tried by the Roman Catholic Church for the promulgation of his scientific discoveries.
