Governor directed to appoint DUHS VC in three days

LAHORE:21July:However, on June 24, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif interviewed all six candidates for vice chancellorship at Punjab University and MNSUET. Academic circles hoped that permanent vice chancellors would be appointment soon after the interviews; however, the government has now revised its position and decided to start the appointment process anew.

Govt likely to regularise 510 HED employees

LAHORE:21July: The Punjab government is likely to regularise services of 510 contract employees of Commerce stream of Higher Education Department (HED) Punjab, it is learnt. These employees including teaching and non-teaching staff (BS-16 & above) were transferred to HED Punjab from Tevta in 2012. Their services were protected in relaxation of Punjab Public Service Commission rules under Contract Appointment Policy 2004.

International conference at Lahore College for Women University

LAHORE:July 21: The three-day international conference ‘Emerging issues in Management Sciences’ organised by Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) concluded here on Thursday with a recommendation of establishing CPEC Centre for Policy Analysis and Research at the LCWU. The conference’s focal person while announcing the final recommendations of the conference said the LCWU’s Faculty of Management and Administrative Sciences will start its research journal, “Journal of Management and Administrative Sciences.”

Training programme for drivers

LAHORE:July 21: Lahore Transport Company (LTC) Thursday organised a training programme at Tthokar Niaz Baig for drivers, fare collectors and related staff in connection with operations of LOV public service vehicles on Route No 141. According to a press release, the training programme was attended by representative of road safety unit from City Traffic Police Lahore and Motor Mobile Patrolling Inspector, etc.

Chemical manufacturers,University of Engineering body meets

LAHORE:July 21: The first meeting of the committee constituted by Pakistan Chemical Manufacturers Association (PCMA) and the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) was held at UET on Thursday. Chemical Engineering Department Chairman Prof Naveed Ramzan chaired the meeting of the committee, constituted by PCMA and UET to evolve a long-term plan to conduct the research projects for benefit of the chemical sector under the industry-academia linkages programme.

Six indicted for blinding student

LAHORE:July 19: A judicial magistrate of district courts Tuesday framed charges against six people accused of emasculating and blinding a 9th class student. The accused including Muhammad Hanif, Shan, Amir Sohail, Zeeshan, Ashfaque and one other appeared before the court where they denied all the charges levelled against them. After which the court indicted the accused and summoned prosecution witnesses.

Work on Knowledge Park to start soon

LAHORE:July 19: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Lahore Knowledge Park Company (LKPC) Dr Zubair Iqbal Ghouri has said that civil works at the site of the LKP is expected to begin shortly under which basic infrastructure, boundary wall, watch towers and entry gates will be constructed. At a media briefing on Tuesday, he said LKPC had been established as a separate corporate entity by the Punjab government to evolve a planning, undertake and oversee the development of 4th generation knowledge and growth parks at suitable localities in the province.

Report sought from Punjab govt in VCs case

LAHORE:July 18: The Lahore High Court on Monday sought a report from the Punjab government on a petition seeking a stay order against appointment of vice-chancellors at three public sector universities. Dr Abdul Mannan filed the petition pleading that the government initiated the process for the appointment of VCs at Punjab University, King Edward Medical University and Fatima Jinnah Medical College University.

Online admissions begin at PUCIT

LAHORE:16 July:The Punjab University has officially inaugurated online admissions at Punjab University College of Information Technology (PUCIT). Punjab University Vice Chancellor Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir inaugurated PUCIT’s indigenous single sign on admission system. On the first day of online registration, more than 1,500 applicants signed up and printed their challan forms to submit the fee. This year, PUCIT expects to receive a record number of applicants due to this hassle-free, automated, and online process at their doorstep.
