LAHORE:08 August: The Punjab government has started inducting new postgraduate medical trainees against seats which have become vacant in various teaching hospitals of the province. According to a press release on Monday, the Punjab Postgraduate Admission Committee has announced that slots are available at the teaching hospitals of the province in various postgraduate medical courses under Punjab Residency Programme (PRP). Eligible candidates can apply through online registration system by logging in at www.prp.punjab.gov.pk.

Rawalpindi:August 8: Azadi train preparations are underway at Rawalpindi Carriage Factory, where more than 100 labourers are working to finalise models of different cultural heritages of Pakistan. Azadi Train will be inaugurated on August 12 for celebrating 70th anniversary of Pakistan It will start its journey from Margalla Railway Station. It will portray genesis of Pakistan, our past and bright future besides highlighting cultural diversity of the provinces and different regions of the country.
LAHORE:04 August: Partners of the Punjab government’s much-touted public-private partnership school programmes, under the Punjab Education Foundation (PEF), are in a fix because they have not been paid their full budget for the past three months. The timing is all the more crucial as schools are about to open across the province. The PEF provides financial and other assistance to its partners, which are private schools and NGOs. They in turn provide free education to children. The programme provides a monthly fee for each student, admitted under the programme, to private schools.
LAHORE:04 August: The United Teachers Council (UTC) Punjab has announced staging a sit-in and besieging Punjab Civil Secretariat on August 10 for, what it claimed, no progress vis-à-vis upgradation and other issues faced by schoolteachers in the province.
LAHORE:04 August: A group of students and faculty members from a private university spent a day out visiting various military units and formations of Pakistan Army at Lahore Garrison. According to an ISPR press release, the programme was specifically organised to enlighten students on routine functioning of Pakistan Army, its organisation and defence capability. The day-long programme started with wreath-laying ceremony at Yadgar-e-Shuhada to pay homage to martyrs of Pakistan Army. The students visited a field formation and had an informal interaction with officers and soldiers.

LAHORE:August 4: National Association of Animal Breeders (NAAB) President Jay L Weiker from Wisconsin, the United State, visited the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) and called on Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha. According to a press release, Jay L Weiker also held a meeting with UVAS professors of Theriogenology. The VC briefed the guest on the UVAS academics, research, extension services, reproduction clinical and lab facilities for small and large animals, short term dairy training programmes and internship.
LAHORE:02 August: The provincial capital has come down to an alarming 34th position as far as the overall academic performance in Punjab is concerned. As many as 13 indicators were selected to gauge educational standards in the province- out of which Punjab shows a satisfactory performance only in one; that is the Function of facilitators, in which the city was ranked number two. Lahore was ranked first in the category of least drop-outs in any city and came 24th in the Literacy Test Math category. It was ranked 28th in possessing the most dangerous school buildings.
