Medical college, teaching hospital to be set up in Punjab University

Lahore:February 21:Punjab Minister for Higher Education Syed Raza Ali Gillani on Monday said that a medical college and a 400-bed teaching hospital would be established at the Punjab University (PU). He was speaking at the 125th convocation of the PU in which a total of 1,454 degrees, medals and prizes were distributed. The minister announced that 10 buses would be provided to Punjab University on the demand of university administration and assured his full support for construction of five hostels and flats for teachers and employees at PU.

Punjab University to reward research Publication

Lahore:February 18:Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir has announced a reward of Rs 1 million for a faculty member on publication of his/her research work in gold star journals. He made this announcement while addressing the closing session of international training workshop “Microarray for Gene Expression” organised by the varsity’s Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB) on Friday. CEMB Director Prof Dr Tayyeb Husnain, faculty members and a number of participants from various academic institutions were present.

Punjab University V C inaugurated faculty gym near University Club.

Lahore:February 18: Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir on Friday inaugurated the faculty gym located near the University Club. PU Registrar Prof Dr Naeem Khan, Academic Staff Association President Javed Sami, Secretary Iftikhar Tarrar and other newly-elected office-bearers, senior faculty members and Sports Acting Director Shamsa Hashmi were present. Dr Zafar Mueen said the facility had been provided to the teachers for their fitness. The VC also welcomed the newly-elected ASA body and said the administration remained neutral in the election process.

Vice Chancellor Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir, Registrar Prof Dr Naeem Khan, Additional Registrar II Jalil Tariq, Deputy Registrar Imtiaz Ahmed and newly-promoted admin officers were present on the occasion.

Lahore:February 16:Punjab University Hailey College of Banking & Finance (HCBF) Principal Prof Dr Mubasher Munawar Khan’s PhD research paper titled ‘Impact of Indian Celebrity Endorsements on Pakistani Consumers’ Perception’ is accepted in a prominent International Conference, Australia and New Zealand International Business Academy (ANZIBA) 2017. The conference is going to be held from February 15 to 17, 2017, at University of South Australia Business School Adelaide, Australia.

Punjab University a lecture on “Pakistan-India Relations

Lahore:February 16: Punjab University Centre for South Asian Studies (CSAS) organised a lecture on “Pakistan-India Relations: Challenges and the Way Forward ” at its auditorium. PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir, Observer Research Foundation (ORF), Mumbai, India, Chairman Sudheendra Kulkarni, CSAS Director Prof Dr Umbreen Javaid, faculty members, students and MPhil/ PhD scholars of the Centre and Department of Political Science attended the seminar.

Punjab University security Reviewed

Lahore:February 15:Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir chaired a meeting of deans of all faculties at the varsity’s Institute of Education and Research (IER) on Tuesday. The meeting offered Fateha for the departed souls of Lahore blast victims. The meeting discussed various recommendations to make the PU security foolproof. The meeting decided to prepare terms of reference for the teachers appointed on contract for their better output and implement semester rules in letter and spirit to improve quality of education at the university.

Punjab University clash: Student groups blame each other for violence

Lahore: 14 February:The Punjab University spokesperson said that the administration had taken measures to maintain a peaceful environment at the varsity. He added that the situation was under control and the university administration was taking measures for the safety of students. Meanwhile, the IJT also protested outside the VC House demanding that former Vice-Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran vacate the official residence. They blamed the former VC of instigating violence in the university.

Punjab University clash: Students come together against ‘hooliganism’

Lahore:14 February:Situation at the Punjab University remained tense on Monday, four days after two rival student groups clashed at the campus, leaving three pupils hospitalised. Both students groups took out protest rallies in the university amid police presence, demanding security and peaceful environment. The police will register cases against both groups on the complaint of the university administration.

Punjab University students win contests

Lahore:February 11:Punjab University students from various departments participated in the Chief Minister Punjab debate, essay writing and speech (Eng/Urdu) Lahore division and provincial level competitions and performed well by grabbing prominent positions. According to a press release, at provincial level students including Muhammad Zohaib Nasir clinched 1st position in English speech while in English debate Fizzah Akhter and Abubakar got 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
