32 of arrested PU students served show-cause notices

LAHORE:27 January: The Punjab University (PU) administration on Friday served the first instalment of show-cause notices on 32 students of the varsity allegedly involved in recent clashes between Islami Jamiat Tulaba (IJT) and the Pukhtun Council. Students Affairs Director and disciplinary committee Secretary Shahid Mehmood Gull sent the notices with a detailed charge-sheet to residential addresses of the students as well as prisons where they were being held after an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) sent them on physical and judicial remand.

Clean-up’ operation continues at Punjab University

LAHORE:26 January:The Punjab University administration has decided to take measures to end presence of student groups at the hostel and started a ‘clean-up’ operation by removing the office of the Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT). The university administration moved against the offices of the IJT after clashes erupted at the campus on Monday resulting in more than a dozen injuries as well as subsequent arrests of IJT members and Pashtun and Baloch students. More than 200 students have been arrested since Monday, out of which 196 were presented before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Tuesday.

Islami Jamiat Talaba offices at PUnjab university closed down

LAHORE:26 January: Punjab University (PU) administration on Thursday closed down illegal offices of Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) at New Campus and removed the graffiti and the insignia of the group from different places at the campus. Jamiat had set up its offices at the hostel of Sheikh Zayed Islamic Centre and room number 244 at hostel number one. The administration also removed the posters and insignia of other student groups from all hostels and underpasses.

Customs to facilitate PU in research

LAHORE :21Januay: Pakistan Customs will facilitate the faculty and students of the Punjab University (PU) in conducting research on modern scientific lines and study the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) trade facilitation concept being implemented across the country. It was decided at a meeting between PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Zakaria Zakar and Collector Customs (Appraisement) Lahore Muhammad Jamil Nasir here on Saturday.

Punjab University workshop

LAHORE:January 21: Punjab University Career Counseling and Placement Centre (CCPC) Saturday organised a training workshop and conducted interviews for the students of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Electrical Engineering and Chemistry. Career Counseling and Placement Centre Chairman Dr Abdul Qayyum Chaudhary, ICET Director Prof Dr Abdullah Khan Durrani, Fouji Fertilizer HR Deputy Manger Muhammad Ali Imam, HR Senior Executive Major Waqar Hameed Malik, faculty members and students were present.

PU and Fatimah Jinnah Medical University signed MoU

LAHORE:January 21: Punjab University and Fatimah Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) Saturday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under which FJMU would provide advisory services and allow its faculty to act as a visiting teacher at PU. The Vice-Chancellors of both varsities signed the MoU. According to a press release, PU would provide opportunities for education and research for the faculty development of FJMU through short and long courses. Both varsities would collaborate for improving quality of programmes, curricula, examinations and research in the field of health sciences.

Teachers can help prevent child abuse Punjab University

LAHORE:January 20: Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zakria Zakir has said schoolteachers can play a pivotal role in sensitising children for prevention of child abuse as school is the most important institution to create awareness about child rights. He said there was a need to do a scientific research to train the schoolteachers to perform the responsibilities of curbing child abuse incidents.

Punjab University BA/BSc exam

Lahore:19 January:Punjab University (PU) has notified that BA/BSc Composite (old scheme) Part-I and II Supplementary Exams of 2017 scheduled to be held on November 27 and Nov 28, 2017, were suspended and re-scheduled for December 4 and Dec 5, 2017, respectively. According to a press release, candidates who remained absent due to non-receipt of roll number slips or otherwise have hereby been given another chance to appear in their missed papers.The news.

Teachers’ Front demands ex-PU VC’s name be put on ECL

LAHORE:09 January:A group of teachers from Punjab University have demanded of the provincial government to put the name of former provisional vice-chancellor’s name on the exit control list (ECL) and a thorough investigation should be carried out against him for alleged irregularities. A statement issued by the Teachers’ Front on Monday stated that the teachers demand that Dr Zafar Moin Nasar should not be given a safe passage and instead legal action should be initiated against him. The statement added that teachers were celebrating the exit of the former VC.

Zakaria is new Vice Chancellor of Punjab University

Lahore:January 9:Punjab Governor/Chancellor has appointed Dr Muhammad Zakaria Zakar as Vice Chancellor of Punjab University (PU) till the appointment of a regular official. The governor has accepted the resignation of interim VC Prof Dr Zaffar Mueen Nasar with effect from Jan 6. Dr Zaffar Mueen had abruptly resigned from the post after serving the university for around a year on an interim basis. It was alleged that he had resigned in protest against the Punjab government for pressurizing him to give 2-kanal of the university land to a seminary.

Govt asks Punjab University to give land to religious party

LAHORE:03 January: The Punjab government on Monday asked the Punjab University (PU) administration to hand over its prime two kanals to a religious party. Adviser to Chief Minister Khwaja Ahmed Hassaan held a meeting with the university authorities at 90 Shahrah-i-Quaid-i-Azam on Monday and forced them to let the government acquire the land without any delay. PU Vice Chancellor Zaffar Mueen Nasar, four deans, resident officers 1 and 2, the treasurer and the director of sports were present.

Punjab University teachers to resist govt demand

LAHORE:January 3:Punjab University (PU) teachers expressing concern over the request of the Punjab government demanding two kanal prime PU land at Old Campus sports ground observed that the university land could not be used other than academic and co-curricular purposes. They vowed to resist any such move. The meeting of different groups of teachers was convened by the Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir who speaking on the occasion said the teachers must respect each other to ensure pleasant academic atmosphere on the campus.The news.
