Government College University celebrates Chinese New Year

LAHORE:February 21: Government College University (GCU) here on Tuesday organised a ceremony to celebrate the Chinese New Year. GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah was the chief guest at the ceremony organised by the university’s Centre of Excellence, China Studies (CECS). The day-long festivity was marked by Chinese music and pictorial cultural exhibition whereas a large number of Chinese teachers and businessmen of the city also addressed the ceremony and briefed the participants about the Chinese culture, customs, lifestyle and traditions.

GC University pays homage to Munnu Bhai

LAHORE:February 16: A condolence reference was held at Government College University (GCU) here on Thursday to pay tribute to the services of eminent drama writer, columnist and poet Munir Ahmed Qureshi—popularly known Munnu Bhai. Veteran human rights activist IA Rehman, noted poet Amjad Islam Amjad, art professor Ms Salima Hashmi, noted playwright Asghar Nadeem Syed, PHEC Chairperson Prof Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin, GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Hassan Amir Shah, and close relatives of Munnu Bhai addressed the condolence reference organised by the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC).

Government College University donation

LAHORE:February 13: The Mustafa Mohyuddin Syed Memorial Fund Monday donated Rs2.5 million to the Government College University Endowment Fund Trust (GCU-EFT) for the scholarships of financially-challenged students. Trustees of the memorial fund Rukhshanda Wasif and Rafia Hussain handed over the donation cheque to GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah here. GCU-EFT trustees Mian Misbah-ur-Rehman and Zia Haider Rizvi and Executive Committee Secretary Prof Dr Khalid Manzoor Butt were present.

GCU among 350 top Asian universities

LAHORE:February 8: The Times Higher Education Asian University Rankings 2018 Wednesday ranked the Government College University (GCU) 351+ in its latest rating. The GCU, last July, was ranked 1001+ in worldwide rankings by Times Higher Education. However, in the worldwide list, GCU had stood 683rd on the basis of its international outlook among all the world universities. “We have been sending data to Times Higher Education for many years, but it was the first time in July 2017 and second time in February 2018 that GCU was listed among international universities,”

Physics symposium at GC University

Lahore:30 January: The c (GCU) here on Monday. A large number of physicists from Pakistan’s leading universities and R&D organisations are participating in this three-day event which will have 27 technical sessions on different topics including condensed matter physics, high energy particle physics, nanotechnology, cosmology, atomic & molecular physics, lasers, plasma physics & controlled fusion. About 82 physicists are presenting talks and papers at the symposium highlighting the recent important developments in physics and the impact of these developments on various aspects of our lives.

Workshop at GC University concludes

LAHORE:November 24: A three-day training workshop on “Outcome Based Education in Higher Education Institutions” concluded at the Government College University (GCU) on Thursday. GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah chaired the concluding session. GCU Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) organised the workshop for young faculty members of GCU which was financed by the Learning Innovation Division, Higher Education Commission.

Allama Iqbal’s philosophy lauded at Government College University

LAHORE :23 November:The philosophy of Allama Muhammad Iqbal will always remain a guiding principle for the humanity, but, it’s unfortunate that the younger generation of Pakistan does not know much about it. This was stated by National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC), Pakistan Executive Director Zulfiqar Ahmed Cheema while addressing a seminar organised by Government College University, Lahore, in connection with the 140th birth anniversary of the Poet of the East, according to a press release issued here on Wednesday.

Death Anniversary: GCU remembers Prof Abdus Salam

LAHORE:22 November: Prof Abdus Salam, the Nobel laureate and Old Ravian, breathed his last 21 years ago on Thursday November 21, 1996 after a protracted illness. With his sad demise, not only Pakistan but also the entire third world lost a great scientist and humble human being. A seminar was organised on Tuesday at his alma mater, Government College University (GCU) Lahore, to pay glowing tributes to Prof Salam for his contributions in the fields of mathematics and physics and the role he played for development of science in Pakistan.

Govet College University exhibition on evolution of big cities

LAHORE:November 12:The Government College University (GCU) organised a photographic exhibition on evolution of big cities in Pakistan held on Saturday in connection with the 8th THAAP Conference. The conference, spread over eight technical sessions, was held in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Some 51 photographs on life in major cities of Pakistan were displayed at the exhibition which was attended by a large number of people.
