GC University conferred PhD degrees on two female students

LAHORE :05 July: Government College University (GCU) on Wednesday conferred PhD degrees on two immensely determined female students, Aziza Saeed and Kausar Inyat, who despite facing physical challenges completed their research on very novel topics in Urdu Literature. Aziza Saeed is the first visually-impaired student to receive PhD degree from GCU Lahore, while Kausar Inyat has been suffering from brain tumour.

caretaker CM was briefed on performance of two universities

LAHORE :July 3: Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Dr Hasan Askari Rizvi met Prof Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, Vice-Chancellor of Punjab University and Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah, Vice-Chancellor of Government College University (GCU) here Monday. In the separate meetings, the caretaker CM was briefed on performance of the two universities. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Hasan said there was a dire need to equip the youth with latest knowledge and added that progress and development was possible with modern education and skills development.

Govt College University VC gets additional charge of Narowal varsity

LAHORE:14 June: Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah, Vice Chancellor of Govt College University Lahore, has been given additional charge of the post of Vice Chancellor, University of Narowal. A notification in this regard was issued on Wednesday by the Punjab Higher Education Department after the approval of Chancellor/Punjab Governor Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana. According to the notification, Prof Hassan Shah will hold the additional charge of the post till the appointment of regular Vice Chancellor at University of Narowal. Prof Shah is an eminent physicist and recipient of Sitara-i-Imtiaz.

Government College University launched a literary magazine

LAHORE:May 12: Government College University’s Quaid-e-Azam Hostel launched a literary magazine “The Quaid” at its silver jubilee celebrations. GCU VC Prof Dr Hassan Amir, Hostel Warden Prof Dr Ahmad Adnan and Superintendent Dr M Nouman Sarwar Qureshi along with the students cut the cake of the celebration. They also unveiled the first edition of “The Quaid”.The news.

Prof Muhammad Afzal donated his personal library to GC University Lahore

Lahore:19 April: Eminent scientist Prof Dr Muhammad Afzal has donated his personal library comprised of valuable publications to the Government College University Lahore for the benefit of students and researchers. According to a press release issued Wednesday, Prof Dr Muhammad Afzal is currently Professor Emeritus at the University of Kuwait. His personal library had very valuable reference books, textbooks, journals, conference proceedings of different scientific subjects including microbiology, biotechnology, and bio-chemistry.

Mental Health Week celebrations began at Govt College University

LAHORE:21 March: In order to promote cultural and religious harmony in the society, Mental Health Week celebrations began on Tuesday at the Government College University (GCU) under the theme “Psychology of Religion and Culture.” GCU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah chaired the inaugural session which included the Inter-Universities Poster Competition. Some 121 psychology students from different institutions took part in the poster competition and displayed posters.

Tehran University and Government College University sign MoU

LAHORE:February 24: Government College University (GCU) Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with University of Tehran, Iran for academic and research cooperation in Urdu literature. Government College University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah and University of Tehran Department of Urdu literature Chairperson Dr Muhammad Kiou Marsi signed the accord. GCU Dean Faculty of Languages Prof Dr Iqbal Shahid, Urdu Department Chairperson Dr Khalid Sanjrani and other officials were also present on the occasion.

Government College University celebrates Chinese New Year

LAHORE:February 21: Government College University (GCU) here on Tuesday organised a ceremony to celebrate the Chinese New Year. GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah was the chief guest at the ceremony organised by the university’s Centre of Excellence, China Studies (CECS). The day-long festivity was marked by Chinese music and pictorial cultural exhibition whereas a large number of Chinese teachers and businessmen of the city also addressed the ceremony and briefed the participants about the Chinese culture, customs, lifestyle and traditions.

Veteran human rights activist IA Rehman, noted poet Amjad Islam Amjad, art professor Ms Salima Hashmi, noted playwright Asghar Nadeem Syed, PHEC Chairperson Prof Dr Mohammad Nizamuddin, GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Hassan Amir Shah, and close relatives of Munnu Bhai addressed the condolence reference organised by the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC).
