Students demand end to rising cost of education

LAHORE:18 October:Students from different varsities of the city protested in solidarity with the students of the Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad and demanded an end to the rising cost of education in the country. The demonstration was organised by the Progressive Youth Alliance (PYA) outside the Lahore Press Club on Monday. Students from different universities, including University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, Punjab University, University of Lahore and other educational institutions participated. LHC orders protection for Turkish teachers in Lahore

LAHORE:18 October:The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday sought records from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regarding the arrival of a special Turkish plane late on October 13 to take a Turkish teacher back to his home country. The court had stayed the deportation of Mesut Kacmaz of Pak-Turk Schools and Colleges, who was among dozens of Turkish school staffers that had been granted temporary refugee status.

Pakistan deports Turkish teacher and family

LAHORE:October 16: A Turkish teacher and his family who were abducted in Pakistan last month have been deported from the country in defiance of a court ruling, a source and a lawyer said Monday, sparking fears for human rights. Kacmaz Mesut, his wife and two young daughters were picked up in September by plain-clothed officers, blindfolded and bound before being loaded into trucks and taken away, eyewitnesses have said.

Punjab University to probe controversial PhD admissions at ICS

Lahore:October 13:According to the MoU, PU would forward the credentials entered by students to NADRA and NADRA would send verification report against each data in a few days. Security measures at Category A schools

LAHORE:October 13:The Punjab government directed officials to ensure security measures at Category A schools of the province remained in line with the recommendations of law enforcement agencies (LEAs). According to a letter sent to all District Education Authorities (DEAs) Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), the Punjab School Education Department (SED) had ordered a fresh security audit to observe security measures as per standard operating procedures (SOPs) that were put in place. Punjab University withholds canteen contracts

LAHORE :October 9:Abnormally high bids for some canteens of Punjab University (PU) has put the university administration in a fix which has now decided to withhold the process to award contracts, it is learnt. Through newspaper advertisements, the PU Resident Officer-1 had invited sealed bids for 25 different spots at the varsity including canteens, tuck shops, motor mechanic workshop, fast-food and juice and photocopy shops, etc. with October 6 as the closing date.

World Teachers' Day observed at Alhamra Hall

LAHORE:07 October: World Teachers' Day was observed on Thursday by paying tribute to the teachers in the provincial capital, as a number of ceremonies were held to focus on the importance of teachers. Different organisations as well as educational institutions and teachers unions held seminars, walks and other events to mark the day, while the School Education Department (SED) organised a major ceremony at Alhamra Hall.
