All textbooks based on 2006 national curriculum’

LAHORE:19 August: Chairman of the Board of Governors (BOG) of Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB), Lt Gen (Retd) Muhammad Akram Khan, has rejected reports of removal of chapters related to Islam, the country and Pakistan Army from primary textbooks. Talking to The News, Gen (Retd) Akram Khan said all textbooks were based on the 2006 national curriculum. He said the textbooks highlighted in the media were two years old but the issue was being raised now.He said in order to ensure balance of content as per the spirit of the curriculum some chapters were rearranged.

Punjab University to start MBBS, BDS this year

LAHORE:August 19: Punjab University’s Academic Council has approved bachelor’s level medical programmes ie MBBS and BDS along with curriculum as taught in King Edward Medical University (KEMU) from the academic session 2017. The meeting was chaired by Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir in which PU Registrar Dr Muhammad Khalid Khan, heads of academic departments and professors participated.

Police asked to enhance security at education institutes

LAHORE:18 august: City police have been directed to beef up security arrangements at schools and other educational institutions in the provincial metropolis. The directive was issued in view of intelligence reports. Meanwhile, private schools have also been asked to ensure that standard operating procedures on security are fulfilled. Schools' administrations have said that the financial burden for additional security measures under the SOPs will have to be passed on parents.

Exhibition marks 70 years of Pakistan in , Information Technology University

LAHORE:18 august:Dr Umar Saif, vice-chancellor, Information Technology University (ITU), opened an exhibition to commemorate the 70 years of Pakistan's independence at the Arfa Software Technology Park on Thursday. The exhibition, curated by the IU’s Centre for Governance and Policy, will remain open till September 14, 2017, which covers the period from the Lahore Resolution in 1940 to Pakistan's creation and the immediate aftermath.

GC University awards PhD

Lahore:18 august: Government College University has awarded a PhD to a scholar in physics. According to a press release Jamil Ahmad Siddiquee completed his thesis on the topic of “Synthesis of Tantalum and Niobium based Nitride and Oxy Nitride Films in Plasma Environment” under the supervision of Dr Tousif Hussain and Co-Supervisor Prof Dr Riaz Ahmad.The news.

Teacher academy inaugurated at University of Education

Lahore:18 august:The first academy for the training of college and university teachers of Punjab will be inaugurated at University of Education on August 21. According to a press release, the academy has been established under a special initiative of the Punjab government to enhance the quality of education. The academy has been set up on the premises of University of Education.The news.

Punjab University Distinction

Lahore:18 august:Punjab University (PU) students have shown outstanding performances in co-curricular activities organised by state TV to celebrate Independence Day. According to a press release, students, including Atif Shafiq and Shahzad Abbas, clinched first position with a cash prize of Rs 30,000 in state TV Azadi quiz competition at Lahore Centre while in final round in Islamabad, they got second position with cash prize of Rs 30,000.

Call to promote liberal arts education

LAHORE:August 17: “To develop critical and problem solving capabilities among the graduating students, it is high time to promote liberal arts education in Pakistan,” said Prof Dr Nizamuddin, Chairperson Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC) while addressing a symposium on “Liberal Arts Education: Grooming the Youth” organised in collaboration with Forman Christian College University (FCU) Lahore on the university’s campus on Wednesday.

Ceremonies oozing patriotism mark Independence Day

LAHORE:15 August: Lahoris on Monday marked 70th Independence Day of Pakistan with national zeal and fervour. The day dawned with special prayers for security, progress and prosperity of the country followed by a 21-gun salute at Mehfooz Shaheed Garrision. A number of families, personnel of the Pakistan Army witnessed the ceremony. A number of flag-hoisting ceremonies, seminars and rallies arranged by the government, Pakistan Army, Rangers, political parties, Metropolitan Corporation Lahore, district administration, union councils, educational institutions were observed across the city.

Nation celebrates 71st Independence Day

Lahore:August 14:Pakistan on Monday celebrated its 71st Independence Day with a renewed pledge to safeguard the motherland against any threat and make it a true Islamic welfare state as envisioned by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The day kicked off with special prayers being offered for peace and prosperity of the country after Fajr, followed by a 31-gun salute in the federal capital along with a 21-gun salute in each provincial capital. Matric student dies in accident

LAHORE :August 14:A matric student was killed and two other people were injured in a road accident on Canal Road Campus Underpass on Sunday. The victim was identified as Ahmad of Dharampura. Two speeding vehicles, a truck and a tractor-trolley, hit cars and bikes on Canal Road Campus Underpass, as a result of which, three people, including Ahmad, sustained injuries. The injured were removed to hospital where Ahmad succumbed to his injuries. People caught the truck driver and gave him a good thrashing. Police have impounded the truck and the tractor-trolley.The news.

Lahore:August 14:Establishment of Pakistan is the result of the great effort of the Muslims of the sub-continent against the British imperialism. This effort consists of 200 years. It is not only a blessing of Allah Almighty but also the fruit of a historical struggle and countless sacrifices. The country that came into being as a result of Pakistan Movement (that covers the period of scores of years), has completed 70 years of its freedom in spite of all challenges, dangers, conspiracies of enemies and weaknesses of its own people. We are grateful to Allah Almighty.
